Digia have today announced the immediate shipping of @Web, their Webkit based UIQ 3 browser. This application, which has been in fairly open beta testing for the last few months, brings full S60, iPhone & Google Android style browsing to the UIQ 3 platform.

@Web is designed to run on touchscreen UIQ 3 phones, so does not support the Motorola Z8 or Z10 handsets (which is a pity), but it's a great advance over the built-in Opera based browser included in most UIQ 3 phones and will work for those of you with Sony Ericsson P, M, or W series phones. @Web uses an intuitive, almost gesture based interface, which in some ways resembles what Apple have done on the iPhone's version of Sefari.

@Web features include:

Browser UI features

Full finger touch UI
Page control with finger
Accelerated panning
Automatic full screen browsing via auto-hiding Address bar and Navigation bar
Page rotation for portrait and landscape browsing
Four zoom levels
Intelligent Bookmark functionality (auto-sorting)
Bookmark folders
Bookmark favicons
URL auto-complete (from history)
URL auto-complete (from history)
"Page loading in progress" indicator
Browser Engine features

HTML 4.01
True web page rendering
JavaScript(tm) 1.5
HTTP 1.1 with support to secure and non-secure browsing
HTTP cache
HTTP cookies
AJAX support
Embedded audio (wav, mp3 and midi)
Netscape compatible Plug-in interface
External launch API
@Web engine is based on the open-source S60 webkit engine version 3.1 ported to UIQ platform by Digia. Other users of the webkit browser engine include Apple Safari browser, iPhone, Google Android and Nokia S60 browser. Digia will contribute source code modifications of the webkit engine to open-source.
