Now, I'll admit that I don't know jack about the technical aspect of computers. I mean, I know enough to help my parents, but that's about it. So naturally, I can't decide whether or not porting these to the Dreamcast are possible, so I'm getting the advice of people who do.

Now, there are links for each of these, all of which I discovered through Wikipedia.

* FreeCiv (http://freeciv.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page), which should need no intro around here. But if those few DO need such, it's an open-source port of Civilization 2.

* Battle for Wesnoth (http://www.wesnoth.org/), a turn-based strategy game with a fantasy theme.

* Dark Oberon (http://dark-oberon.sourceforge.net/), an RTS done with clay animation. Looks pretty good, but my cruddy computer (an old Inspiron 1000 that I got for a graduation present about 4 years ago) can't run it right.

* StepMania (http://www.stepmania.com/), the DDR sim which if ported to the Dreamcast would put Feet of Fury to shame. I mean, we've already got a dance pad for the DC, but why not a REAL DDR experience?

* Widelands (http://xoops.widelands.org/), a remake of Settlers 2.

* FreePrince (http://www.princed.org/), a open-source re-implementation of the classic platformer

* FreeRA (http://freera.org/), a FreeCNC-based recreation of Red Alert

* GemRB (http://linux.prinas.si/gemrb/doku.php), a "portable open-source implementation of Bioware's Infinity Engine which was written to support pseudo-3D role playing games based on the Dungeons & Dragons ruleset," quoting the website. Basically, it can make Baldur's Gate on the Dreamcast possible, if it's not impossible.

* Stratagus (http://stratagus.sourceforge.net/index.shtml), an open-source RTS engine. Can be used to play Warcraft and Starcraft via Wargus and Stargus, respectively.

First off: you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
Second: use the search feature. Most of those programs have been asked about before, and so no need to ask again if so.
Third:

Taking a look at that list in order:
yes, yes yes, no (or would require significant modification), yes, yes (but it would run very slow), possibly but probably not, and yes but again slow.

So, let's recap:

POSSIBLE
* FreeCiv
* Battle for Wesnoth
* Dark Oberon (for best speed, tweak the sprites?)
* Widelands

POSSIBLE W/ ISSUES
* FreePrince, though with some tinkering, one could rewrite the engine to make the DC version just an interpreter. I mean, a lot of things in this are really quite useless for a DC version.
* Stepmania, but I can see that it would need countless modifications. But all that work would be worth it for such a GR8 DDR experience of the DreamCast.
* Strategus, but with work may be full speed.
* FreeRA

IMPOSSIBLE
* GemsRB
