Zegouky (http://playeradvance.org/forum/showthread.php?p=205616&posted=1#post205616) has released an amiga emulator (http://gouky.com/?menu_nav=PROJECTS&sub=UAE4WII)for the Nintendo Wii:

UAE4Wii is a port of the famous amiga emulator UAE based on UAE4all from Chui.
Pressing home will bring the GUI.

Wiimote is used as the mouse but also as pad #1 and pad #2

A = Left mouse click
B = Right mouse click
1 = Fire button
+ = Quit when emulating

To come, a nice GUI with advanced functions, a virtual keyboard and surely an update of the UAE
base source code used by Chui for UAE4ALL for more compatibility.

This is the emulator I've been waiting for on the wii (well that and a decent mame port).

Fantastic news. :)

Hell yeah! Very nice! Finally something to fill my SD card with. I will be testing this one a lot this weekend.

Can anyone confirm if they have got this working with there kickstart1.3?

I've tried the 512kb kick.rom and, although the emu boots, when you select a drive to load an adf it just freezes the wii each time?

My 1.3 kick.rom is the same size, and located in X:/UAE4Wii/ directory and I haven't had a freeze like that yet. I've only tried Zool and Lemmings so far, and Lemmings is the only one that seems to freeze (after opening cinematic, before menu). Could just be a horrifically long load time though, as I'm still able to move the in-game cursor. I stopped waiting after about 30 minutes.
Great to see this released, by the way. Thanks to the Developer.

Cool! I haven't really done much with the amiga, so this will be new for me. I have 300MB left on my SD, so it's game time! :D

I figured out that I had too many games in my wiiuae adf folder... so when I trimmed them down to about 20 adf's everything works fine now on my kickrom and it boots straight away without freezing.

Had a quick test and the budbrain pd demos work more aless perfect!

As does Speedball 2, robocop, pacland, pacmania, chase hq (although theres no key for the nitros), pang, rodland (although the sound is a little bit slow), BC kid, rolling thunder, alien breed.

Narc, North and South, Battle Chess and Stuntcar racer all boot fine but you cant play as you need different keys mapped.

Happy days.

This emu is marvelous, near perfect.

It needed only any fix with audio problems, support for the spacebar and a virtual keyboard.

Great first release

ARGH!

YESS!!

Now a C64 emu!!!!!!!!!

November 9th, 2008, 20:29
Yay! That is VERY nice. Im surprised at how well it works. The sound has a bit of noise, but that is the only issue so far. Amazing for a 0.1 first version.

I have tried it with Settlers so far and it runs the intro nicely. Really brings back the good memories of when I unboxed that game. It was a package of Cannon Fodder, Settlers, Terminator 2 and The Chaos Engine. The manual for Settlers might be the biggest game manual I have seen so far... and read as well :)

I had an idea about trying to connect Wiimotes to my new laptop so it could be the ultimate emulator computer, and using Wii motes and classic controller and such to play the good old games, but now the Wii certainly is becomming more attractive as the ultimate emulator machine. It already has a nice collection of emulators so far, with good save state support.

I hope someone makes it possible to add a USB keyboard to the Wii to use with homebrew, that would really help with C64 and Amiga emulation. So far there doesnt seem to be a good C64 emu out yet for the Wii though.

Thanks for this, just stopped playing stardust to post.

I too would welcome support for my usb keyboard. I know the Dreamcast version supports the DC keyboard so here's hoping.

Keep up the good work.

Done some more testing. The GUI keyboard would sure be nice, and support for 2 controllers, and even better if the controls could be switched between working as mouse or joystic, since I dont think UAE supports more than two controllers. So as it is now the wii mote uses both controller ports as it is both joystick and mouse.

Support for 4 disc drives would also be usefull. So far the 2 drives seems to work well, when you place multi disc games in them.

Also it seems the status bar at the bottom is taking some of the Amiga screen, so an option to disable it would be very nice as well. Settlers isnt easy to play since alot of its control goes beneath the disc indicators at the bottom.

I guess it might be more complicated, but options for more RAM would be nice to, since sound and graphics gets removed with only 512kb ram.

The things on the todo list seems more important though, GUI keyboard, save states and a nice UI :)

Does the author of this nice emulator read these comments by the way? I hope so.

I don't know if he reads on here or not but he's just posted some info regarding his next release on playeradvance.org: "I made some changes on the management of the wiimote now it works better. I also added support for USB keyboards, I expect to add at least one virtual keyboard before making a new release".

...so it sounds like the next release should be pretty cool.

Yay!! :D I can play Shufflepuck Cafe on the Wii with Wiimote control (few graphical controls, but it really brings it all back). Roll on the updates...

kblood
November 9th, 2008, 23:47
Great :) That sounds awesome, I didnt expect the next update within a month, but sounds like that might happen. USB keyboard support sounds awesome! I hope my wireless keyboard will work with it.

So far I have found quite a few games that works very well, fully playable.

Settlers is playable, but missing the bottom of the screen so that is a bit too annoying. Recommendable games though:

Rick Dangerous, Lotus, Warlords, Prince of Persia, James Pond 2: Robocod, Wings of Fury, Defender of the Crown, International Karate+ and Rick Dangerous 2 I guess although I havent tried it yet.

Most other games I have tried only lacks the possiblity of pressing 1, 2 or enter on a keyboard to be played. And with the Function buttons, lots of trainers would be usable as well :)

I really hope its possible to work out controls for two wiimotes. Lots of fun two player games for the amiga.

http://chui.dcemu.co.uk/uae4all.html#GameCompatibilityList

Here seems to be a game compatibility list for UAE4All, which is the UAE that was ported to Dreamcast. But it seems that unless the people at http://www.gouky.com/ can edit UAE4All's coding, it wont be possible to add more discdrives, change controls and maybe not even remove the annoying status indicator bar at the bottom.

But if he can change the UI then it seems possible that they are getting into the coding of UAE4All and not just porting the old code to Wii.

I think the problem with porting the C64 emulator Frodo was that it didnt do just to port the unix/linux version of it to Wii. It needed some more tweaking of its source code to have it work on Wii. That still might happen though... I hope.

I have been looking through the UAE4All source code, and it doesnt support save states, and Gouky plans to add save state support if I am not mistaken, so I am guessing he is going to modify the source code, more than he probably already have done :) It all sounds very promishing. If he releases his own source code, I might even find a way to disable that status bar :D Will probably take me a week or more to figure out how to code that, and another week to figure out how to compile it so its Wiiable... and I dont think my patience lasts that long :(

Having the ability to adjust the screen would also be useful; My NTSC Wii looses the top portion of the screen on a composite TV, even though WB1.3 indicates that an NTSC Amiga is being emulated - WB Prefs does allow me to adjust the screen down to show the entire WB screen...

It would also be nice if UAE4Wii wouldn't automatically resume after selecting DF0; it doesn't do that for DF1

It goes in the UAE4Wii directory, which should be on the root of your SD card.

EDIT: appears it was my game selection, unfortunatly ufo is not working which is a real shame as its probably my all time fave game but settlers works fine as someones mentioned god i love amiga.

also do you have to rename the kickstart to anything?

I placed the kick.rom (v1.3 512k) into the root of the SD card under the UAE4Wii folder.

When I start the emulator, I get a screen with the hand holding the Kickstart v1.3 disk. How do I load the adf files from the UAE4Wii/adf folder?

I named them using a 8.3 convention and I still don't know how to get past the kickstart screen.

Please help :(

it should be named kick.rom and needs to bin in the UAE4wii folder in the root of your SD, ADFs in a folder named adf in that folder i.e x:\UAE4Wii\adf and once your on the home screen press the home key to bring up the menu.

superfighter2006
November 18th, 2008, 14:21
haha nope, that doesnt work just goes to a black screen then back to the homebrew channel, definetly the right kickstart too, 1.3 512kb kickstart
think ill cut my loses and stick to winuae lol

Should the screen with the disc go away at some point? If so, how long does it take?

feddon
November 18th, 2008, 23:10
yeah it should do pretty much straight away, once you load the adf, try loading the adf into drive 0 and then resesting the amiga (using the menu). Mine only stuck on the disk screen on one game the other 2 i tried booted straight away, you tryed different adfs?

hi, I too am a complete newbie to the modding and emulator side of the wii.

a workmate gave me a disc that goes to game cube mode and is full of master system, megadive, NES, SNES, turboFX...but more is better.

i would love to get this Amiga one working!
when i extract the RAR file it says that something is corrupt.

could someone do a screen shot of the files exactly how should it be setup on the SD card to work...

and how do i get the wii to open the sd card to start the emulator?

where do i get the kick.rom (512kb) from.

any help would be much appreciated. i just want to play the games o my child hood!

ok with a bit more research

i got the homebrew channel loaded to my wii.
i have a few apps that seem to work others that dont.
i put the uae4wii into the apps folder of the SD card.
the emulator shows up in the homebrew channel. i can click to open but the screen goes black has a couple numbers and squares in the bottom right of screen, then it goes back to the homebrew channel.

so frustrating!

Have you got the correct kickstart rom for UAE4ALL?

I would advise you to install the Homebrew Browser. With this, you can install just about any app directly from the internet to your Wii and everything will go to the correct folders.

Some apps need additional files that are not distributed with the application (such as UAE4All which needs a kickstart rom) and so for these you should read the documentation (usually a 'readme.txt' file) that comes with the application.

Used to love playing Rodland, pacland and pacmania like you have added

I wonder if there is a way to scroll if there is too many games.

Apart from the sound being a little off everything is superb, great emualator
