Time to announce the Winner :)

The judging is made up from 5 Judges, 3 are Coders (Inc Fanjita), Me Wraggster and one Wild card judge, the judging gives marks out of 10 and they are added up, then the winner is chosen.

Heres what our Special Guest Judge Fanjita said about the releases

<blockquote>OK, here goes. I've based my judgements on the following criteria, mainly:
technical achievement
originality
fun/wow factor
completeness and presentation

Quake 2
A great achievement by McZonk, this has come along a long way since the early alpha release that I saw.

This sets the standard for future 3D FPS homebrew for the PSP.
Overall score: 8

Ceres
A nice faithful asteroids clone, and the addition of a back-story helped with the professional appearance.

My only gripe was that there didn't seem to be a lot of difference from the previous version.
Overall score: 7

Tower Toppler
A fun, cartoony port with great presentation and a novel approach to platforming.

I found it difficult to get to grips with the controls, though.
Overall score: 6

PSP Cloth
I've always had a soft spot for small tech demos, and this is a great little demo of realistic cloth simulation. It's effects like this that add the finishing touch to professional games.
Overall score: 5

KETM
A nicely polished port of this fun shooter. With the ability to add new mods, this should have lasting appeal.
Overall score: 7

Missile Command
An update of the existing Duck Shoot LUA game, I enjoyed the missile-command style of play. The addition of downloadable cheats over wifi was a cool addition.
Overall score: 6

GALPSP
This wasn't really my kind of game, but I can see how it would appeal to fans of the genre. The library has obviously been well put together, and there's potential for some great games to come from this in the future.
Overall score: 7

Iris
A very nice achievement considering that this is original code and not a port. There are some small visual glitches that give away the beta status, but overall there's enormous potential in this game. Support for v2.0 is also a bonus.
Overall score: 9

PSP-OSS
At first glance, this is "yet another shell", but it becomes obvious that it's an extremely-well put together one. The skins are slick, the function is broad and well-implemented, and the effortless EBOOT launcher / HOME button handler hides some hard-core code.
Overall score: 9</blockquote>

Ah come on, Quake 2 was hyped to the balls long before the competition started...I didn't expect anything else!

Well done McZonk! :)

I'm still proud at the fact that Iris only came second by one point! :D

Cheers,
Fox

Sure Quake 2 was hyped. But it is a famous game. And you see the rating was very close.

I like Iris, I tested all other entries except PSP-OSS. And it is a very nice game. But I think it has not the potential Quake 2 has. Because Q2 has the big background of mods and other stuff. And you would need a huge team to realize your own game. That's why I choose to port a game.
I even don't have a modeller or graphicer who would help me when I started. That's why a ported a game instread of making a new one.

Congrats McZonk, Q2(from the screens I've seen) looks awesome. I look forward to a 2.00 version in the future if possible.

To the Iris team: Iris is very well done and good luck in the next contest, but with stuff like Vector Infector and some of the other new PSP homebrew that is being released on a daily basis, the competition is going to get tougher and tougher.

Looks like PSP homebrew is finally making a real name for it's self. If titles like these keep coming, 2006 should be a great year for the homebrew scene.

i have to admit, i was seeing a real slowdown in homebrew over the past several months..

but we've been starting to see so many great things such as iris, quakeII, densika's ports, the gta cheat device, psp oss... etc. I really feel like i can retract that opinion now. The competitions have DEFINATELY helped!

Thanks for existing.. psp news ;)

by the way, i never really had much interest in quake II personally... i tried iris and i'm enamored with the potential it has, i was kinda hoping it would win.. BUT.. maybe now i'll give the quake port a shot. it's just that the PSP has so many ports (even on the commercial side) that i really go for anything original whenever possible. but definately everybody did an excellent job, none of the entries looked half assed or incompetent from what I saw.

Just wanted to thank all coders involved. Your collective efforts are what make the PSP homebrew scene so promising. Keep up the good work!

Mc Zonk, think of it this way, wile you "may" have mod's soon... we have version 2.00 support, right NOW! :P

And dont think just because it has a following in the mod area that it still does, I've been with the quake community for a long time, and most games that were mods are now standalone games, so porting would have to be done for most of the worth wile mods :P

I think Quake 2 will never have 2.0 support. You have less memory and after restarting some maps you will have segmented all your memory. 2.0 support is not a neccasary feature for me. I think homebrew will always have to face the problem of fight against sony's new firmwares.
I'm really impressed by the work of fanjita and all the other firmware hackers. But as long an exploit limits the resources it also limits the homebrew power. No Quake 2 on 2.0 is one example. My major problem in Quake is reduce memory wasting and id software seems to waste memory as if it is unlimited and they segmentate the memory badly.
I don't want to made your Iris port bad. I really like it and I'm sure it will be a popular multiplayer game soon.
But be realistic. We all have normal lifes and we are just a few enthusiasts how spend to much of our spare time to code or model or draw or admin psp stuff. If anybody really plans a big 3d psp game and we got power of a lot of modellers, musicians, animators and coders I would be proud to support work on the graphics engine.

I want to thank everybody who supports the psp community activly. I know the base of the scene is a mess. But thanks to everybody who works on psp hacks or games, who runs psp boards and who support the community in any other way.
