Sony plans to refresh the PlayStation Portable product line with a PSP-4000 model in late 2009 and launch a true successor at a later date.

Publishing sources, speaking to our sister site Eurogamer.net, were unable to provide any further detail on next year's update, which will presumably follow this year's PSP-3000 in taking an iterative approach.

The PSP-3000 launched this October and followed a 2000-series model, the first Slim & Lite, in September 2007.

Even fewer details were available on the PSP successor, but we're told that developers are already working on games.

Sony UK said today that it would not comment on rumour and speculation.

PSP-3000 bundles currently retail for GBP 129.99 the UK following its October launch, and despite sporadic software support and fewer platform-exclusives than Nintendo's DS, strong sales in Japan have propelled it to sales of over 30 million according to Sony's corporate sales website.

int PSPversion;
for( int i = 0; i < n; i++ )
{
PSPversion = (i+1)*1000;
Sony.NotCommentAboutPSPRumor( PSPversion );
Sony.RandomDelay();
Sony.PublishNewPSP( PSPversion );
DAX.CrackPSP( PSPversion );
}

Question: How much will be 'n' value?

n = Math.random() * lolz;

why would they start working on games now after 3 other models with nothing to do on them?

the 2000 and 3000 models is sony way to put a syop to homebrew. lmao the only thing they forgot was the games. thats why i don't bother to buy a 2000 nor a 3000 b/c its all the same shit that the 1000 has maybe the 2000 and 3000 has a bigger ram capacity and nice screen but i like the irda feature that the 1000 offered. idk why people will get the 3000 and a year later spend another 2 to 300 on a 4000. I will wait and see what the 4000 has to offer that the 1000 cant do. :)

aye, they already have 3 old models they dont know what to do with that have all sorts of ability's as shown tru the homebrew scene

but now everyone is suposta focus on some vaporware sony isnt releasing well past 2011-2012?

sony will be lucky IF they are in the console market with their current 3DO type system (expensive as crap and no real reason to buy it on a whole), the psp is for the most part a software failure going against the end all be all king of handhelds since before day one, nintendo

but "sources" say they are working on software 3-5 years into the future of hardware?

those "sources" suck, its a bunch of nerds with a what if list and some internet tidbits that could be used to tie sony to a psp2 just as much as it could be used to tie OJ to killing Kennedy

internet tidbits that could be used to tie sony to a psp2 just as much as it could be used to tie OJ to killing Kennedy

No one ever proved that it didn't happen. :p
*Breaks out conspiracy chart that somehow links OJ to the Kennedy assassination.

On a serious note though, the only thing I imagine them doing is fixing that one screen error. I don't know what else they could do.

Why would it have...wait....CAN it have support for a ps2 emu......and if so i dont think sony would be dumb enough to release that.....would they >.>

Really, if we think about it, the Gameboy had a new hardware iteration every year or two.

The only real way Sony can screw this up is if PSP4000 can't play the first or second generation of (legitimate) PSP games. From what I've seen, DSi is having this problem.
