Sony's announced that it has released a new firmware update for the PSP – although it's a threadbare revision for the handheld.

Details of what's on offer are scarce, beyond a statement on the PlayStation blog proffering that it enables improved software stability on certain features.

For anyone keeping the score, it's version 5.03.

This update kills off the gripshift exploit, so no homebrew for psp3000 users who install new firmware.

Willing to bet that it patches the gripshift exploit

of course.. the whole "enables improved software stability on certain features." is a bold faced lie from sony.
