View Full Version : Dream Photo Manager 1.0.0 Released (with new KOS Dreameye driver)

I have just released Dream Photo Manager 1.0.0, a program that can be used to manage the images on a Dreameye camera. This coincides with the release of the new KallistiOS Dreameye driver in KOS SVN r626. As for what Dream Photo Manager does (other than having the corniest name I could possibly think of), it allows you to browse and delete images from the Dreameye. Since its use is confined to the Dreameye, it is pretty pointless if you do not have one.

The controls are dead easy (and there's no GUI at the moment): Left and Right on the dpad cycle through images, and Y deletes them. It really can't get all that much more simple. :D

Dream Photo Manager 1.0.0 can be downloaded from https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=75988&package_id=309230 . Enjoy, and report any bugs you might find.

WOW great thats we CALL NEWS!!!!!..I really wish that he will improve it till its gets more funstions!!..Like publish to web throug Dreamcast broadband or even "set this photo as backgound in the Dreamcast main menu"

Dreamcast has a lot of inetersting gadgets to work with...
As i remeber i have done a thread about Dreameye.Saying make Dreameye working like EYETOY.Then make homebrew games for that and plus its a reason to buy a Dreameye in nowadays.

I wish someone will make drivers for Dreamcast karaoke unit. Its really Shame that these machines are dusty in nowadays!!They are great piece of hardware.Someone has to make something so they can be fuctional again!!!!

Really...

I tried it out, but couldnīt get it to work. Can I use this program on real hardware?

BlueCrab
February 8th, 2009, 22:29
It should work just fine on the real hardware (it probably won't work all that well in any emulators, anyway). What exactly was the problem you ran into?

Uh... I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but I'll try to... decypher it...

I'm guessing you're asking for some way to upload images to the internet through the program? If so, I doubt I'll work that in any time soon. It'd be pretty easy to have it download images to a PC if you have a BBA and use dc-tool (there's actually an example in KOS that I wrote right before this that basically does just that).

As for plans, I don't really particularly have any for this program. If I have time, and particular feature requests I will try to work on it, but I can't guarantee anything.

I think that u cant use as a live camera with ur dreamcast internet anymore and its a shame cause its a web camera. So it would be great someday to use it for your live chat through Dreamcast..
Also uploading videos aand photos from your dreameye to net(throu dreamcast always)
Is this possible?I mean do you have any idea of how this will make it happen?

Two things will have to happen before that will be at all possible:

KallistiOS will need a real, working TCP stack. This will take a bit of time, but I'd like to see this one happen sometime in the near future (no promises though).
The encoding of the "video mode" of the camera will have to be figured out. The images passed back from photos taken on the camera are standard JPEGs, which is why it was fairly easy to make them work after figuring out how to talk to the camera. I can get the camera to give me back the "video" frames, but they are encoded with some compression that I can find almost no information about online. This will have to be figured out before any sort of video recording can be done.

So, the short answer is, don't expect any sort of video chat mode for a while. I'll attempt to make it happen, but I can't promise when it will.

I made an ISO file of your files in PowerISO.

Then I used BootDreams and burned it out.

The Dreamcast couldnīt read it, and the cd-player meny show up.

BlueCrab
February 9th, 2009, 17:49
You should be using bootdreams for the whole process. There's no reason to create an ISO separately (and I'd be willing to bet that the problem is that your ISO was not created properly).

Voldo

I did what you told me and used bootdreams for the whole process.

I created now a cdi image with bootdreams and then burned it.

The Dreamcast boots up and I now see a white screen in a few sec, and then the Dreamcasts main meny appear.

So Iīm kinda stuck right now.

If you are kind, and want to help me, you could make a cdi-image for me (and others of course), and see if it will work better this time.

Have some other tried it out?

I actually use Mac OS X, so CDI creation is somewhat out of the question. Anyway, I just created a CD of Dream Photo Manager with the archive that's up for download and basically the same steps that BootDreams would use if you had it do the burning internally with CDRecord. You should be able to extract the .tar.bz2 file and run BootDreams over the resulting directory with no problem at all.

Man it works, and omg, there was 19 pictures in it that the owner I bought from has taken. Cute japanese boy with snow ^.^ This will be fun to watch. :D

And thank you very much for the guide. Usually burn with iso and cdi, but have learn me something today.

The Dreameye has to be like pc webcams.Thats the Reason why sega made the Dreameye. It would be great some day blue crab to create a program for Dreameye which will use all the power of it.And i mean:
Live web chat
Save photos and Videos to VMU
Upload a video or a photo
and some more spicy options like
recording effects like.canvas,watermarks,black and white,sepia,etc
Edit tool and special effects for photos.

I know its difficult Blue Crab : ( I wish i could help u to make this happen cause i really love the Dreameye and its a shame that u cant use it nowadays with your Dreamcast BBA...

But u did the first step. You are the first you made homebrew drivers for Dreameye and i really appriciate that.

Also do you know that Dreameye has a software Cd in its Sega package?..you can get an idea of how Dreameye is working!!..And so u can use the same technique in your program(generally speaking i have no idea about programming)

Have you tried this official Dreameye software before blue crab?

Live web chat Possible, as mentioned before, but very difficult.

Save photos and Videos to VMUPhotos would be possible, video not so much (there's not nearly enough space on a VMU for this to be useful)

Upload a video or a photoPossible, but needs real networking support (like video chat).

recording effects like.canvas,watermarks,black and white,sepia,etc

Have you tried this official Dreameye software before blue crab?Yes, I know about the official Dreameye software, but sadly it is probably of no help at this point. Studying the official software with an emulator (or something like DreamICE) would be helpful in figuring out how it communicates (the part that's already done), not so much how to decode the video.

I have been a dreameye user for years, and today i found out about this little application, you cant believe how excited i was. I cant wait to try this out! Thank you so much BlueCrab for developing this, i hope you keep up the good work!

My question is, could you make this work with the SD card reader that is going to be released for the Dreamcast? Can you imagine being able to save your dreameye photos directly to an SD card? I would die! :D

I would love to be able to download dreameye pics to my PC at full resolution.

You mentioned this would be possible using DC-Tool and a BBA. Any way you could implement this (perhaps similar to vmu tool's save transfer)?

It certainly wouldn't be hard, but the problem for me is finding the time to do it. I've got about 5 weeks until I graduate from college, so right now things are pretty hectic...

After the middle-end of May, I should have time on my hands to work on this stuff.

Heh, exactly the same with me. Hopefully there'll be a nice glut of DC stuff trailing our graduations.

Is there any easy way (or any route) to translating Visual park... There is an english manual, and ill happy work on getting the software translated.. if only i knew where to start?

Or is this impossible?

GagaMan

If the Visual Park disc uses PVR files for it's buttons etc, it would be quite easy to edit those in Photoshop with the PVR importer extension.

If your Dreameye is boxed it should come with the Visual Park disc.

Before this degrades into all out discussion about backups, please refrain from speaking about dumping games and such. This kind of discussion is not allowed here.

And, as a side note, Visual Park is quite large.

I can't find any lists of updates for any KOS release? There haven't been any "releases" of KOS for an extremely long time (this is partially my fault). If you want to see the most recent changelog for KOS, you can find that at this link: http://cadcdev.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/cadcdev/kos/doc/CHANGELOG?view=markup

I love talk of the Dreameye. I am a big fan, i own 2 of those lil' beauty's but i dont use them much anymore because i cannot transfer pictures to my computer. Both camera's are filled with pictures i dont want to delete, and i dont have enough VMU storage. I used to transfer pictures through a dial-up connection but the last time i tried i couldn't get visual park to work with any of my email accounts.

Does anyone have any other methods of transfering pictures from your dreameye to your pc?

I'm from brazil, nice to meet everybody !
Well, i know the other method enfilade , come on see :
in the visual park, save your photo in the vmu. After, run the dreampassport or other browser that you like and go to this site:

http://bswirl.kitsunet.org/vmu/save/public/uploader.php?lg=en&menu=on

your photos are in the file: PASSAPORT.P00(photo 1), PASSAPORT.P01 (photo 2) ...

now, in the end of page, upload your file PASSPORT.P00
confirm the game (anyone, no matter), location and upload ( the save file go to the dreampassport browser section, but you know that is a photo of your dreameye)

go the the dreampassport pictures section (http://bswirl.kitsunet.org/vmu/save/public/liste.php?lg=en&menu=on&path=D%2Fdreampassport%2Fpicture)

see your upload ... browse the jpg option download

the picture are small, but have a fun !

you can see my pictures there !

Yeah if you got this working with the SD card reader that would be awesome

gumbyandpals
February 7th, 2010, 16:33
BBA support would be very nice since saving pictures to your VMU cuts the resolution in half.

What use is a camera that only gives you 320x240 resolution?

If you could dump the photos at the original 640x480 you could at least do SOMETHING with them.
