For a company that's big on fanfare, Nintendo loves to slip in the little nuggets of info that it knows will drive its users insane. Take, for example, the 3AM press releases for DSi release info and price, or how about the early morning announcement of Revolution's name change over to Wii. Fanfare? Not really.

Then we get this out of the blue:
Excitebots: Trick Racing - April 20, 2009

This little stealth announcement on the Wii release list sent out this morning, which could be taken as a Fallout 3 "Fat Man" mini-nuke to what we hope is going to be a megaton-inducing E3 showing this year, also took us entirely by surprise. Punch-Out!! got its date, a few more third party games were added to the first half of Wii's 2009, but then what's this? Excitebots: Trick Racing?

What the deuce is an Excitebot, and how do we buy one?

Not only has there been no info thus far on what appears to now be an Excite Truck sequel of sorts, but this game is coming out of nowhere, and it's coming fast. The current release date of April 20 is less than two months away, and we don't have so much as a screen of the game to show off.

A few other tiny details are included, such as mention that the game will use the Wii wheel shell (meaning it's tilt to turn, just like the original), and confirmation that it is indeed an extension off the Excite Truck brand. What's with the "bot" name? This is merely speculation, but perhaps Nintendo is adding in some sort of vehicle creation system into this one, or simply using the name to expand on other types of transportation altogether. If we had it our way, we just want to race a classic Excitebike motorcycle character; maybe made up of colored cubes like a little 3D pixel art? We can dream…

We've currently got a call out to Nintendo on this one, but we're awaiting comment on the game. Expect more news in the near future though, and if we know the Big N well enough, it'll most likely come when you least expect it.
