To many of us teethed on R-compound pacifiers, the sight of this badge sets the imagination racing. It's easy to visualize a young Jim Clark wringing every last ounce of grip from a Lotus-Cortina, or Mario at the height of his Formula 1 powers with the John Player Special Lotus 79, victory wreath around his neck and spraying Moët like a firefighter.
