Rumorang: PSP-4000 details leaked

A sliding screen and no UMD drive for the rumored PSP-4000? If Eurogamer's "close to Sony" source is to be believed, these are the changes you can expect to see in the next iteration of portable PlayStation. The screen is supposedly the same as the PSP-3000, with the only difference being that it can slide. When in the "closed" position, the unit will be "significantly smaller in width" and most controls will be inaccessible; however, shoulder button-only games like LocoRoco will be playable while in this state.

The noted hardware change, which would make the PSP a UMD-less device, mimics statements made by former COO of Acclaim Dave Perry last week -- to which Sony's PSP marketing head John Koller offered a vague non-denial. With the PSP-4000 rumored to arrive later this year, it won't be long before we get more verifiable information.

We have been hearing rumors about PSP2 for like so long that anyone with any sense stopped caring a long, long time ago. I'll start paying attention again when Sony says something.

that would be a great idea if it wasn't a sony product a flip screen doesn't exactly look sleek unless it's ultra slim.

yea, im close to sony, my psp is sitting on the desk, and i have a lot of wishful thinking

i say the psp 5000 is going to feature a sliding touch flip swivel screen, 4 analog sticks, a querty keyboard and a beagle toaster

Everytime news about the newest PSP comes out theres always rumors of flip screens, sliding screens, dual analog.. shit like that. and its always false.

No offense to everyone, but why "should" Sony make their console open source? I'm sure they would if they weren't making money off of commercial games and other software. They have a right to protect what they make money off of. If they didn't do commercial games and software of course they'd make an "open" handheld. That's not the the business they're in though.
