i just finally got my computer back (after about a month) and now it has an
e-GeForce 6600 256MB video card and 764MB RAM and a 260GB HDD :D

so my question is - How the heck do i run my old games (like halo, half-life, and quake 2-3) at 1200x1600 resolution *without* buying a new monitor (the last resort)

Thank you, very much :)

Ya, any cheap video card can go to resolutions around 2048x1536 but only the most expensive monitors can display that resolution.

d'oh!

omg, who cares bout a resolution of 1600x1200?!

Screw the res as hih as possible, ook how much FPS u got left and if possible, switch on FSAA 4x, or maybe 8x ...

Looks just as good as 1600x1200.

At Q3a and HL this worx for shure ... just a hint. I'd not spend a lot of money just for the fact that I own a monitor which supports a resolution of 1600x1200 ... it's just senseless.

(by the way, I already DO own such one. and it was not very expensive, because I bought it back in the times when EURO as a form of money was not even thought about)

It's "only" 17" monitor, but it is a very good piece of hardware. I just like the fact that in those days b4 the year 2000, they sold hardware that was realy worth the price ... not like today, where I got 2 spend 700,- € 4 a real high end graphics card ... this is just stupid ...

That is so not true.

Resolution is what it says, resolution. It's the amount of pixels you see at once in a screen. Therefore, the higher, the much better image quality your going to get.

Jaggies will also become MUCH MUCH less noticeable, due to the increased stretch size of the higher resolution.

So, according to you, if I run HL2 on 640x480, and pop up max AA and AF, that it'll look just as good as 1680x1050 (My monitor's native res, which is WIDESCREEN!) ?. Stop smoking.
