Kamjin the coder behind quite a few great Dreamcast Projects so far can add the merit of a slashdot post to his credits so far, heres the newspost from Slashdot (http://games.slashdot.org/games/04/07/15/1616252.shtml?tid=127&tid=186&tid=202&tid=209) [br][br]MilenCent (http://www.hiddenglade.com/blog/) writes "Oh rapturous jubilation! Some saintly homebrew Dreamcast programmer has ported Rogue (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/roguedc.shtml), that wonderful, magnificent, beautifully malevolent progenitor of PC RPGs with randomly generated game content, to Sega's undead console. The history of Rogue (http://www.wichman.org/roguehistory.html) is long and storied, and the genre of Roguelikes (http://members.chello.at/theodor.lauppert/games/roguelk.htm) (which includes a certain game (http://www.nethack.org/) you may have heard of) has found a new platform to settle on."[br][br]Nice to see the Dreamcast scene getting some more much needed promotion :)[br][br]Hats off to Kamjin for all his work :)

COOL!! This is good news.. exposure is good, hopefully it'll
get a few people to pull their dreamcasts out of the closet..
Once they get lured by the link.. they'll be exposed to some
of the goings on by the comunity!!!

The Dreamcast scene is like no other
1) you dont need to modify your console.
2) the software is all legal
3) the amount of software, games emus apps etc etc is staggering
its simply the best :)

2) the software is all legal
Not all of it. Just the software that most people are using now. There was a time when the Katana kit was being used quite extensively to develop homebrew.

Like aka the illegal emulator Sega Gen which people stole the source from the smash pack and made there own emulator for other games to work and that was a big issue back in the day it still is

The sega generator, wasn't that good either.. there
was still a noticable lag in Sonic.. at least I bought
it cheap..
Overall I still think it's one of the best consoles that
has appeared in years.
If you're a parent on a budget.. you could easily buy one, with 40 games for less than the price of 1 ps2

There was never that much made with katana. The homebrew scene really exploded with kos.

True, mostly the early stuff was made with Katana before kos became really user friendly and stable - now it's the backbone of the whole scene.
No wonder the X-Box mob use so much GREEN in their stuff ;D.

I do remember when i joined the scene ways back just as a downloader i seen lots of stuff that isnt even available anymore cause of Katana and i cant remember any except segagen.DreamSPEC, DC64, Sintendo, GypPlay, and early versions of BoobBoy (the newest one uses KOS) used the Dreamcast WinCE libraries, and some demos used either the Katana libraries or or the WinCE libraries.
That's it.
Of course, if you include the illegal releases - there's
1) the illegal Sega Smash Pack rip (don't call it SegaGen - 007Cheater created that name to get hits to DCEmulation - call it what it is - the illegal Sega Smash Pack rip)
2) The Sonic 2 demo 007Cheater put up for download on DCEmulation
3) "QuakeDC" - The Titanium Studios port that was leaked onto the internet and uploaded to DCEmulation in it's complete form at first (with the commercial WAD files included), then replaced with shareware. IDSoftware reportedly has no problem with this - I'm not sure about Titanium Studios, so it's more of a grey area (as is all software made using WinCE anyway).
But, it's better just to ignore the WinCE programs and use programs that are 100% legally developed with KOS, libronin, etc.
All of the programs have better legal alternatives anyway:
DreamSPEC - Speccyal K
DC64 - DreamFrodo
Sintendo - DreamSNES, Super Famicast
GypPlay - Bero's DC Movie Player, commercial Dream VCD Player
QuakeDC - RADQuake, nxQuake
All of the WinCE applications were top of their fields at the time, but nowadays they are overshadowed by their completely legal counterparts, so it's best to stick with the legal route.

Before KOS, the legal stuff was either written from scratch (DreamSNES), or using libdream (the predecessor of KOS). There wasn't that much of it, but it was there nevertheless.
