View Full Version : Cooling efficiency or laser problem?

Lately my Dreamcast has been having some issues with overheating. I'll be able to play games for about an hour, and then the games will start skipping and will eventually crash. And all of my games are in beautiful condition, so, it has nothing to do with the disc. The laser sounds like it gets to be working pretty hard, so, this is why I suspect laser troubles. When this happens, I'll just take off the top of the case, and it runs fine. So, should I attempt to adjust the laser, or design some more efficient method of cooling, by cutting extra ventilation holes? I was thinking if it's not the laser, I could gut the modem, and replace just the plastic, with extra holes in it for ventilation. So, what is most likely causing my Dreamcast woes?

Thanks..I'll give that a shot, and return if it doesn't work. I knew there was a guide like that out there somewhere, but, couldn't find it for the life of me. I haven't been so good with google lately haha

Yep, that did it. I adjusted too much, and it went too slow and just wouldn't read discs, but, I tinkered for a while and it seems to be back to normal. It used to sputter out at about the hour mark, and I'd say I've clocked in about an hour on it. We'll find out if it's really fixed next time all the friends and I get together and fire up some House Of The Dead 2 and Dead Or Alive 2.
