Can anyone point me in the right direction to translating games? I've seen patches, I just don't know where to start yet I'd like to do one myself.

O_o Honestly, I haven't actually seen anything on this.. interesting.

But I was also interested in this topic. I'd like to get into some translating for some games. I have experience with coding and hex-editing, and also in translating Japanese to English. Not really sure if I have that kind of free time, though, but if someone else could do the coding, I'd be interested in trying to start a translation project with someone. ^_^

Good luck on your search, anyway!

I plan on working on Suikoden 1&2. Or at least get someone else translating it by finding information and helping them out.

PSmonkey may be able to point you in the right direction. One of his early projects was a translation for bof for psp. of course no one has heard much of it.

Nobody has started a PSP project as far as I know, but you might get some help at http://romhacking.deadbeat-inc.com/.

There's an ad section at the left, and you might want to check out the forum for some help. Despite the name, the translation scene isn't restricted to roms, some people also deal with Isos, I suppose the basics aren't much different.

No, I'm pretty sure there are translation patches out there.

There's been a 95% translation patch for Tales of Eternia out for quite some time, great game too!

Google for "PSP translation patch".

Thanks for the link though.

Thanks, though I guess I'd rather have to take your word on this, googling what you mentioned leads me to forums which I apparently have to register to see how to patch and such etc, I don't have a PSP, so I'm not looking for translated isos and such.

But regarding Suikoden 1&2, is it safe to say it won't be released in English? Did Konami already say that? Otherwise I'd rather would wait till E3. Wouldn't be the first time someone picked up and put a lot of work into a game which was eventually offically translated.(La Pucelle on PS2 for example)

Konami already stated there will not be an overseas release. There are rumors where SCEA will not "accept" remakes with less than 30% changed content.

But there is always a chance. Rumors are flying everywhere, and I can't tell what is fake and what isn't.

If anyone wants to keep up to date on the game, I'll be editing the page at Wikipedia:

I see. Wouldn't surprise me if the part about SCEA would be true, I never understood their policy regarding 2D games on the PS2 either.

Hm well I PMed PSmonkey back when I started this topic, but haven't gotten a response yet.
