Imagine having instant access to all your video anywhere! With its ability to easily record from any analog video source onto standard memory cards, the Neuros MPEG4 Recorder 2 is the must-have companion for PSP’s, iPod’s and other portable media players. With the Recorder 2 you can record the media you already own onto your handhelds to liven up your commute, make a cross-country business trip seem a little less lonely, or just watch your favorite movie or TV show in bed without disturbing your sleeping spouse.

Here’s how it works. Just pop a CF or memory stick memory card (purchased separately) into the Recorder 2 and plug it into the video-out jacks of any video source (cable or Satellite TV box, DVR, PVR like Tivo™, VCR, DVD player, camcorder, etc) with the supplied cables and hit ‘Record.’ Once the recording is finished, you can instantly view the recorded video on a PSPTM , your laptop or other handheld that accepts CF or memory stick by popping the memory card out of the Recorder 2, popping it into the player, and hitting ‘Play’.

It’s easy to watch on an iPod too: Just transfer the recorded file to your PC via a USB card reader (purchased separately) and add it to iTunes, then sync your iPod, and you are ready to go. Nothing to download or convert.

Neuros is all about openness and freedom and, unlike the big guys, uses open standards to make sure your content plays without hassle on as many products as possible.

You can even do timed recording so you can record last night’s “Sopranos" or “The Daily Show” while you sleep or this afternoon’s ballgame while you work. And it’s just as easy to record from DVDs or to digitize your home movies. You can also use the Recorder 2 to watch video or view photos on your TV. Just plug it into the Video-In jacks on the TV and hit ‘Play’. And with the USB connection from your PSP or an inexpensive USB adaptor/Card reader (not included), you can easily drag and drop content from the memory card onto your computer to play it on your laptop or home PC.

The Recorder 2 weighs ounces and fits in the palm of your hand, so you can easily take it on the road with you as your portable digital VCR.

The only advantage I see with this (it's a pretty good idea), is that if you are in a rush to use the recorded file. A DVD Recorder may be cheaper, but by any means it is better quality. And now with the new PMP format for PSP I wouldn't be willing to buy a recorder for LQ recordings.

It seems like it is only a tiny bit cheaper, but has nowhere near the power of any other recorder. If someone else finds a good reason to own it, I might buy it.

There are actually quite a few reasons why the recorder is a useful device:

Think of it as a VCR for your PSP (and other handhelds). You can record movies or your favorite show for playback on your PSP at anytime. Unlike a lot of videos downloaded from the internet, it is perfectly legal. I am quite certain that, like in the US, you have limited access to popular shows on the internet, aside from illegal downloads. Conversion is another option, but honestly, after using it, I went back to realtime recording. No hassle, pop the card out, put it in your PSP and play the movie.

The recorder can actually record pretty high quality files (640x480, 30fps, which is close to DVD quality), but such files can not be played back on the PSP (due to hardware limitation) and most current handhelds can not playback VGA files (640x480) either. The other reason to limit the resolution of the files to QVGA (which is optimized for small screen) is to store more content on flash cards.

Now keep in mind that I work for Neuros, so I am inherently biased. That said, most reviewers agree with the fatc that the Neuros Recorder is the easiest way to get video content on the PSP.

Looks good and I am very tempted
…However does any one know what the quality of the PSP video image is like compared to say off the shelf UMD video’s as some PSP players are a bit hit and miss especialy at high frame rates?
