Do you think there could be a way to 'inject' things from a PC/Mac to the PS3?

Maybe it could be a chance of a expoit? Maybe not.

Possible, but unlikely. All this API is supposed to do is stream video and audio to the PSP, and send button presses and such back to the PS3. If Sony made a mistake in designing or implementing the API, then there might be a way to do a buffer overflow or something.

It would have to be a fairly major mistake, but since this API wasn't intended to be public, maybe Sony got lazy and didn't check everything.

The main problem is that I can almost guarantee that Sony will come out with a pair of firmware updates for the PS3 and PSP that changes this API and closes the hole. Probably sooner than later. :(
