I got interested in Homebrew because of the PSP. I'd say I started around mid-2006.

I'd say it was back in 2003 when I was looking for a replacement Dreamcast on eBay. Someone was selling NES and Master System emulators with roms on discs.

It made me curious as to how that was possible. So, I did some research and discovered the world of homebrew (for consoles). :)

The first time I ever used an emulator for Windows was back in 2000 with NEStron! and Mario 3.

Either 2002 or 2003 with my first modified Xbox, the lad who chipped it filled it with emulators and a few thousand games.

Wow! Bloody hell. Now thinking about it, I go back to 1996!

I remember when NESticle and ZSnes were the best/only NES and SNES emulators around. I also remember all the fun I had stripping my DOS 6.2 config.sys and autoexec.bat files to free as MUCH himem available so I could run them on my crusty old 486 DX2 66 with 1MB RAM and 340MB Hard Drive. I had to wait a full two years to be able to upgrade so I could run legendary UltraHLE and Bleem!

How things have changed (and only for the better :)

Go Homebrew and Emulation!!!!

I started on the community in 2000, when I visited DCemulation.com for the first time. I'm still in this community since this site opens. And I hope it will last longer.

I got interested in Homebrew because of the PSP. The ability to play SNES on my portable console manage to hook me up.

For me... it started back in 1997, a friend told me that a program existed which lets you play SNES on your PC (ZSNES), wow i though.
Getting more interested in emulators, i got a hold of Neorage and M.A.M.E. and later on UltraHLE. I think these were the early days of emulation on PC and in time having a dreamcast, the Homebrew/Emulation scene came to my console aswell.

Thanks! for all the excellent programmers who made this all happen!

Another old-timer here with fond memories of NESticle and Genecyst. I remember being amazed that I could coax my 486 into playing Turtles in Time at something like 15 FPS. But, hey, that was playable! All thoughout the late 90s and 2000s, I kept Emu news sites bookmarked so I could grab the latest releases as soon as they came out. (nowadays I'm a little less OCD about it)

I used to code for the ancient systems (Sinclair, Commodore) back in the 80's so homebrew as pretty much always been in my blood. Emulation got me gripped around '97/8 when a friend of mine introduced me to a Sega Master System emulator called MEKA.

i go back to zsnes on the pc. playing super metroid and a link to the past on my pc was so cool.

i then got a dreamcast specifically for emulation, but i didn't like the interface...loading roms into memory every time you restarted the system. i knew a hard drive based console would do the trick, but i held off on getting an xbox until n64 emulation got started, as its my all time favorite system. n64 was never perfected but the xbox is absolutely THE system to play emus on, as far as capabilities, compatibility and features go.

today i also have a psp and now a dingoo. so i'll be around in this scene forever.
i have high hopes that the pandora will be capable of playing n64 games like blast corps, silicon valley, rogue squadron, etc with perfect emulation. ahhhh a guy can dream!

I started out dumping arcade game ROMs back in '95, then progressed to working on MAME and Retrocade by 1999. I wrote some 2600 code for an aborted game project, then started porting old DIV Game Studio games to the Dreamcast. After a while, I wrote my Dreamcast game Encounter Zone in the Fenix language. The game is pretty much finished, but due to lack of interest from the scene, I never released a full version of it. Now I just sort of check up on things from time to time, but don't really keep up anymore.

Emulation was 2002 when my older brother's friend got a disc with a GBA emulator. Homebrew came a few months after, but I didn't actually start enabling my consoles for homebrew until 2008 when I got a Games n' Music for my DS and used the Twilight Hack on my Wii.

Without even realizing up till now i started using homebrew and emulation on a 386, and 486 and a pentium 1. The 386 was given to me by a teacher back in the highschool days who had claimed you can still use those computers dust it off have some fun.

So i was using Geos and played games like vLeaper,VGA Mario Bros and plenty of others this started in the finale of 1999.

But it wasnt until 2001 and 2002 when i really got into homebrew/emulation and actually knew what it was all about. Starting out on the Dreamcast downloading emulators and homebrew games and i still do it today when ever i get the time to do it.

I believe before the Dreamcast though i also had the PSX and it was modded and only tested one emulator on that and it was It Might Be Nes which was a great emulator.

I then got a Xbox got it softmodded then i destroyed it by deleting the whole drive not knowing what the hell i was doing.

I then sent it to a modder in my area he modded it and then i started having problems loading games like GTA Vice City, and Rallisport 2. So i got pissed off cause i thought there was a problem ripped everything out and that sameday bought a new Xbox.

Never modded it though cause i never wanted to have the same problem happen again. Then i got a PC and the Xbox didnt really matter to me for emulation. For that matter emulation somewhat stopped on other consoles aswell cause the PC could do it better and i got a new pc in 2004.

For emulation, ever since the first ZSNES emulator was released I was hooked on playing super nintendo games on my PC.

As for homebrew, I first started when I learned about Nintendo DS Flashcarts. : D I instantly bought a DS lite, and a DSTTI. :P

I first experienced emulation about 12 years ago but I only really got into it about 5 years ago which is around the time I go into homebrew on the Dreamcast. Reading up about homebrew and emulation is actually what enticed me to buy a Dreamcast in the first place. I have since used homebrew on the Wii also.
