Having proved to be a reliable money-spinner on consoles, the LEGO Star Wars game brand is venturing online with a new free-to-play episodic title on LEGO’s Star Wars portal.
The game, which is entitled LEGO Star Wars: The Quest for R2-D2, is playable in a browser (though it does require the installation of Unity 3D) and will be familiar to anyone who has played the previous console outings.
“It was a great pleasure to work with our friends at the LEGO Group one more time,” Pablo Mayer, game producer at developer Three Melons, stated.

“We are thrilled to have the chance to work with such a rich IP as Star Wars, which we are all fans of. And the opportunity came with perfect timing, because we now possess all the capabilities needed to create the game we had always dreamed of.”
LEGO’s internet content manager Sten Lysdahl added: “Making a game for the LEGO Star Wars franchise is not an easy task. Even though it is not a video game, expectations are still very high.
“Online advergames are an important part of our online strategy and we are very pleased with the work done by our continuous partner, Three Melons, in this project. To be honest the result is amazing and we are certain that the kids and fans will feel the same.”
15 levels are to be released in total, with the first part being playable now at the official portal.

Damn, thats good. I wish Lego would release this on XBLA, the Virtual Console and PSN as a free game like Dash of Destruction. (Achievements and Trophies for the XBLA and PSN versions as well of course!) It would be a great promotional move!
