NesterJ v1.11 Released (Nes Emulator for PSP)

Ruka (http://rukapsp.hp.infoseek.co.jp/PSPSoftware/NesterJ.htm) has released a new version of his Nes emulator for the PSP, heres whats new:

Development environment was changed from PS2SDK to PSPSDK.
Compression of SAVE data(SRAM etc.) and STATE data(zip format)
-> Compatible file format of NNNesterJ.
Format of thumbnail file was changed from non-compression Raw to PNG.
Emulation processing improvements.
Added Screen Shot Function.(It saves to the "PSP/PHOTO/NesterJ/" folder by the PNG format.)
And other minor changes...

This bios is from Famicom Disk System, an extension for the japanese NES. Some game were only aviable for this extension.

Eeeerr... how to install it (a 1.50 it's talking)????

Ill explain this ONCE... you need to know your firmware version. If it is 1.50 than you need to use a downloadable tool called the kxploit (not the actual name of file but this is what you need) this program will split the file into two different folders so it will run it. If your firmware is 2.00 you need to use fanjitas eboot loader. if you are higher than 2.00 you need to use the gta eboot loader which REQUIRES YOU TO HAVE THE GTA DISK! just keep that in mind. the eboot is the application .pbp is like .exe for windows. that eboot file will go into a folder in your psps game folder. NOW if you are 1.50 you will launch the NesterJ from the game/memory stick icon. If you are 2.00 you will launch the eboot loader AFTER installing the eboot loader, from your photo menu, and inside this menu you can launch your nesterJ or snes or any other homebrew appz. If you are higher than 2.00 I don't know how the GTA loader workz as I will not upgrade beyond 2.00 myself. But if I understand correctly you load GTA and load one of your saved games that is actually changed to the eboot loader after you install said loader. Surf around through old forum threads about kexploit and eboot loaders and you shall learn all you need. Really hope this helps its not too complex but you are jumping into this all much later than I did so we all have a big head start on learning. Good luck ;)

Help with the Wi-Fi Ad-Hoc Function of this emulator. It seems like I cannot use it. Do I have to do any special settings or something?

Sorry I only tested it on firmware 1.5 and there are plenty good multiplayer nes games Mario 1, and 3. Cabal, Contra. Just look around Im guarenteed youll find something you like :) Also this is how you play ad hoc mode. Both of you load up the rom you want to play (it has to be the exact same rom otherwise it will not work) then after that go back to the emulator menu and then both of you press 2 player ad hoc mode. You will both connect and you guys just both have to accept each others connection and then thats all you have to do. :) Have fun take in mind though this is an alpha version and it does hang up a lot.

I believe V1.11 works on the E loader but I have personally not tested it since all I have is 1 psp that is firmware 1.5. But It couldn't hurt to test it on your own. Hope that information helps :)

ok i am probably just being stupid but i downloaded the files and then put them into PSP\GAME\NesterJ and it said game could not load when i tried to load NesterJ. I did not have any roms in the folder but I would suspect that that is not the problem. Can anyone help me?

yes 1.11 does work on 2.6 however the wi-fi is unstable at this time

Ok. Everything is working fine, up until it goes to the list of roms. I choose one, and it just freezes. I have to shut the psp off. It does this with most of the versions of NesterJ, but for th eother versiona, it won't even start up. Help?

Oh, and I'm using the fanjita e-loader GTA beta to load it.

edit: it also says "load config failed" on the v1.20 of NesterJ

there are much better more refined versions of the eloader out now, the beta is very out dated. the load config failed means you never saved a config file.

there you go. just a simple search of google "nesterj 1.20" and it was the firsy link. amazing how easy thinga are these days (and how lazy people are). it looks like it is not quite ready yet but just for testing. as for creating a thread, which you can find out if you look for two seconds, just go to the forum then look above the threads on the top left and it says "create thread."

Not quite sure if I have graphical settings correct and I'm getting a few glitches...just curious if they are settings or the emu itself...

On Mike Tyson's Punchout, the 'cut scenes' (ie. your dude jogging behind your trainer on the bike in front of the Statue of Liberty) is severely corrupted...the character sprites look fine but the city background is all text/ASCII characters...

On Rygar, the dude disappears everytime he gets hit and remains gone for a couple of seconds...sometimes, the creature sprites flash a bit but enabling 'Extend Sprites Mode' appears to have fixed that...

Here are my current settings but I've tried most everything...these appear to be the most stable...

Extend Sprites Mode ENABLE
Black and White Mode DISABLE
Default Palette Type NINTENDULATOR

Screen Size FULL SCREEN

Wait VBlank ENABLE

TV Mode AUTO
Rapid Mode ??????? 15 count/sec (NTSC)
Speed Mode Toggle DISABLE
Speed Mode 1 ?????? 80fps
Speed Mode 2 ?????? 40fps

CPU Frequency 222 MHz

I have no idea what rapid mode and speed mode are.

Anyway, any insight would be greatly appreciated.

You have to put the emulator in PSP/GAME. To play games on the emu you have to obtain a rom file from a rom site like rombay and romhustler.:D

To use 1.00 homebrew you are supposed to make a new folder and put the eboot(1) inside (if not already made).

I have downloaded and installed Nester J, created a "NesterJ%" Folder in the Game folder under PSP, and placed the two files in there. I go to memory stick on the psp and i see nester j on the menu and when i go to start it i get the error message "the game could not be started. 80020001
i do not know what to do from here as different people are telling me different things or just not being very helpful at all. im runing 1.5 by the way, and any help would be appreciated as i thought i did everything i was supposed to do.

You need a tool to do the kxploit trick on the files. Putting the normal eboot.pbp in the % folder won't work.

Also there is a later version if you have firmware 1.5 Nester J V1.2Beta2 I would recommend that version, you can find it on Ruka's home page, because I believe he asked for no site to mirror his work at the current time.

The FDS Bios is the Famicom Disk System Bios. It's required if you're gonna play any FDS games. Check it out here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famicom_Disk_System
