E3’09: Sony smart to embrace digital distribution, says the team behind PSP games Worms Open Warfare and Lemmings
Team 17 Studio Head Martyn Brown has praised Sony’s newest PSP console, adding that the platform holder has made a wise move in embracing digital distribution.
Brown, however, did not offer the same level of praise for Sony’s UMD format.
“I think it's fair to say that the UMD as a media format never really got going,” he said, “and I think it's clever for Sony to embrace digital distribution.”

I never understood why sony proclaimed it is a media format, then only uses it on 1 flipping product

UMD is about as much as a failure as any other propitiatory storage medium, ever hear nintendo fuss and whine about SNES carts not replacing VHS? or SEGA moaning that gamegear carts didnt replace cd's?

I think Sony expected that when everyone saw how great the UMD was (snort), they'd rush right over to Sony's licensing department so they could use it too. Didn't happen...
