As today's Shigeru Miyamoto Roundtable Discussion came to a close, a Q&A session gave the legendary game designer a chance to explain his views on Achievements -- the staple feature included in every Xbox 360 title that tracks gamers' accomplishments as they make progress in their games.

"I'm not a big fan of using the carrots to motivate people to play. I want people to play because they enjoy playing and want to play more," Miyamoto said.

The statement came in response to a question about how Wii Sports Resort includes a "Stamp" system, which seems to function similarly to 360 Achievements. It was our own Craig Harris who asked if that feature in Resort could point to the start of full-blown achievements for all Wii titles.

"Not, maybe, in the overall sense that you're talking about," replies Miyamoto. "It just fit Wii Sports Resort. The stamps within Wii Sports Resort are more of an impetus to play in different ways and to try and do different things."
