I mean I have roms not emu's. My DC is May 2000 and I have nero express/startsmart. What do I do from here?

You will find instructions on how to use Selfboot inducer to make a bootable disk for the Dreamcast HERE (http://dcevolution.net/DCHelp/index.php?id=sbind).
Place your .smc files where you want it, SNES4ALL have filemanager.

I'm not understanding this? I was trying that yesterday and I am wondering if the tools that I have are compatable. I have been working with the psp since it came out. And have enjoyed the emu's and roms but now want to get one working for this system

actually, dc hakker might be easier to use, just burn the binaries and rom on one cd and burn a dc hakker disc

http://www.dchomebrew.org/dchakker.shtml

if your using nero version 6 you have to burn a TAO disc instead of a DOA disc

How do I know what nero I have. When I start it up it says nero in the left hand corner. I have also downloaded alcohal 120. Ok by you saying that I have to burn the binaries and the roms onto a disk (are the binaries the snes4all files) and if so do I just put those files on the data disk and then burn it. Also do I just make a data disk and put the dc hakkar on it.

I burned a cd with snes4all bin file and I put some roms on it. Then I burned a cd with dc hakkar on it and when I go to dc and put them in it ask me to install a disk

Hm, try BootDreams to get a selfbooting DC, no need for Nero!

Some quick tutorial I wrote about how to create and/or burn a Dreamcast disc in less than 5 minutes:

http://dcevolution.net/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1143467515/0#0

This tutorial has three sections:
1 - General Info you should know.
2 - Burning a .CDI with BootDreams
3 - How to create and burn your own DC image with BootDreams

1 General Info:

Media:
You'll need CDRs. Best are 80min/700Mbyte. CDRWs and other media are -NOT- supported.

You do -NOT- need a modded DC. About any Dreamcast will work with CDRs. Very, very few won't.

Format:
Standard in Dreamcast software is the DiscJuggler .CDI format. Nero's .NRG format would not work on MAC and LINUX, also any Nero version newer than 5.5 had its problems with the DC format.

Most downloads for Dreamcast come as .ZIP or .RAR files. WinRAR should help you with unzipping/unraring:
http://www.winrar-rog.com/eindex.html

2 Burning a .CDI file with BootDreams:

To burn a *.CDI file, it's recommend to use BootDreams' CDI-burner. BootDreams is VERY easy to use and it's for free:

Download: http://consolevision.com/members/fackue/tools/projects/bootdreams_061.exe
Website: http://www.consolevision.com/members/fackue/prj_bootdreams.shtml

1. Download BootDreams and install it to e.g. C:/BootDreams/

2. Download the image you'd like to burn and unzip/unrar it somewhere, e.g. to C:/

3. Start BootDreams and choose "CDI Burner". Now click on "Browse" and point BootDreams to the CDI you would like to burn.

4. Click on "Burn CDI Image". That's it.

If BootDreams doesn't recognize your CD drive, download WNASPI32.ZIP and unzip it in your C:/BootDreams/Tools/ folder:
http://consolevision.com/members/fackue/tools/wnaspi32.zip

Other:
Nero Burning ROM isn't recommend for Dreamcast software but Alcohol120% (in TAO mode) works good too. Download the free trial version here:
http://trial.alcohol-soft.com/en/download_120.php

3 How to create and burn your own DC image with BootDreams:

1. Download BootDreams and install it to e.g. C:/BootDreams/

2. Download the emulator/game/app you would like to burn and put it in a dedicated folder, e.g. C:/BootDreams/SNES4ALL/

3. Now unzip/unrar your emulator/game/app into that same folder. The 1ST_READ.BIN contains the actual DC programme.

4. Start BootDreams and point it to C:/BootDreams/SNES4ALL/. It will then guide you trough the process. I recommend the 'CDRecord' method.

Once again: if BootDreams doesn't recognize your CD drive, download WNASPI32.ZIP and unzip it in your C:/BootDreams/Tools/ folder:
http://consolevision.com/members/fackue/tools/wnaspi32.zip

Also let me point you to http://www.dcevolution.net/ - we got gigabytes of precompiled Dreamcast images including games, media and emulators for you to try out, e.g. our DEP: NES Edition:

Edit: Perhaps I should sticky this tutorial over here too...

Should I pick audio or data or multi and do I need a bootdisk or is this all in one

I opened up bootdreams and I selected browse then I picked the snes4all file which I put the 1st read bin into with my roms. Then I picked cdrecord, then I picked multi session disk then I burned it and my dc is still asking for a disk the dc only recognizes this as a music file not a game and i can't even get it to play the music file. What am I doing wrong?

Just stick with the default setting: I'm using 'Audio/Data' which works fine. No need to change that.
