News from Dreamcast Scene:

In an interview with the Tech Digest(approve sites) website, Sega Europe CEO Mike Hayes was asked about rumors of a comeback of the Dreamcast?. His reply was short and clear : "There are no plans for Dreamcast to make a comeback."

So there you have it. If DC fan's had any new hope after the great sales of Under Defeat, they can let it go now. But at least our beloved console is still alive after all these years! :D

yea... he's the sega EUROPE CEO. so that just means nothing in europe. Also, nothing planned doesn't mean impossible.

I don't think a comeback would be really wise. Remember that this console got the label 'failure' while it was still alive and kickin'. Now most people I speak don't know about DC or 'know' it sucks or at least know it commercially flopped in my country.

Isn't TecToy producing the Saturn in license(http://asp.tectoy.com.br/videogame/saturn/index.asp)?
I don't know if they are still producing the Saturn. This company is very interesting, they even released some NEW games for Mega Drive (Duke Nukem 3D) and Master System (Ecco 2).

Would be cool if they would release new Saturn games, too...

I wouldnt get any hopes up for the Dreamcast to comeback. Yes many of us oldtimers are enjoying the system and new people are buying used ones from us oldtimers. So pretty much the same amount of people are enjoying the Dreamcasts.

Yes some have left it sitting in the dust and brought back to life but still not nearly enough to commercially bring it back. Also if Sega is wise they know commercially like it did would probably die again if they cant make many great games.

The biggest reason for a flop system is you can make the biggest games and if you did it takes to many GD-Roms which means more money on them and if people arent buying then Sega aint makin the money to further making big games.

People want big games no offense Arcade is great but people want games like Halo big shooters like that great graphics and good RPG's that are known to be big in the commercial market today some people dont even know what Shenmue is and by some i mean alot.

Dreamcast had great graphics but not nearly enough to compete with Xbox nor GameCube and possibly the PS2 which hardware to me isnt all that great and Dreamcast could kill it possibly. But this in mind to me brings games like Metal Gear on PS2 could Dreamcast make a port like that i've never seen a game that big and with amazing graphics like that on the Dreamcast.

Yes Shenmue was great but i dont think it was as great as Metal Gear. So its all about money making, wise decisions and could a failed system make it in the market again. To me if as many people didnt like it then and like Cid Highwind said about his friends and others that have heard from about the system have no clue what it is or they think it sucks and i'm having the same problem here in ONT. Canada.

So i wouldnt think of comeback it would be a very nice idea but for those of us in the scene only cause thats pretty much whats keeping the system alive aswell as the very few commercially made games being published today. Still not nearly enough.

Look yes maybe you are right. But we have to take into consideration that Dreamcast would be able to be upgraded.Dreamcast under it has four clips.Sega had anounced that they have plans with it.....
Also in Dreamcast is easier to create a game........
Dreamcast was out at a very crisis year for sega.If their system did it further i believe that things maybe could have changed a bit the video game industry just because Dreamcast had and has funs.
Maybe Dreamcast was the lead in Nowadays if Sega didnt stop it from the production. Many people sold their systems just because they got dessapointed........

I believe that Dreamcast could handle. The system has great graphic filters and nice ressoloution.Well maybe not like the other consoles....yes i agree........but admit and respect that the Dreamcast had something special.....THE GRATEST MEMORY CARD ALL OF ALL YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those clips were used with the Dreamcast Kareoke add on, the planned DVD drive and the planned Zip drive attachment. The Kareoke was only released in Japan and the other 2 never made it outside the prototype stage.

IIRC there already exists a single chip which includes the SH4 cpu and the PowerVR. It would have been cool if there would have been licensed Dreamcast-compatible systems from 3rd party manufacturers, like they wanted to. Remember the news with the TV settop-boxes being compatible with DC? I don't know if such a thing was ever released...

I knew....But a Zip Drive was also in plans.
Just think how usefull would be for Dreamcast network.Downloads, storage games/,multimedia,mp3s....etc.
Also in plans was upgrading systems like better graphic cards and gennerally add ons for the Dreamcast.(correct me if iam wrong,i remember plenty of romours at the years between 1998-1999 )Also in plans was an emoulator for the Dreamcast for Saturn games. It was writing"the fact that ps2 is compatible with the first psx games is a reason for sega to create a subject like this. Its name SAT=CAST......These article was from the Greek gamepro which i still have it!!!.....
I still hear a voice deep inside me that Dreamcast will be manufactured again.Well maybe not from Sega...its ok.........Treamcast!!!!.......Great system also with prety good sellings.

As glorious as it would be for the Dreamcast to make a comeback, I'm definatly not surprised that it's not going to. It just wouldn't make a whole lot of sense really. However, a new Sega console that can run Dreamcast games would be nice.

If any new console was DC compatible I'd be very happy indeed. I hope it's something Sega bear in mind should they consider entering the hardware market again.

One of the things i like about the Dreamcast movement is that were no longer under a company. Albeit Sega is a great company but do we need a CEO to tell us anything? I don't think anyone realistically expected a comeback.

In another way the DC is making a comeback anyway without Sega. Dedicated gamers, a magazine, new games that sell-out.....
