If we are talking about an emulator that actually improves the graphics of the games then the Bleemcast releasesfor Dreamcast were simply awesome.

Now if its for pure emulation then Sonys emulator for PSX inside the PSP firmware makes that the best out of all.

Bleemcast was great.
PCSXBox is also pretty good.

Sony's PS1 emulator for the PSP is obviously a commercial emulator so I wouldn't count that as one of the best.

bleemcast!
then the psp one...
then... umm... I don't know

the psp is definitely the most impressive BUT i rule it out simply because it doesn't have dual analogs and you can't play 2 players.

so that leaves the xbox with pcsxbox. it doesn't have 100% compatibility (i can't get colony wars running :{ ) but its stable, supports 2 players, save states, throttle (VERY useful with those damn final fantasy cinemas and resident evil loading screens!)
xbox rules the emulation scene...so stop asking these questions!

Isnt pcsxbox is the best psx emu for "non-portable" consoles available at this time?

The best PS1 emu is the PS2.If you are talking purely software emulation then I dont feel any console emus do the PS1 justice. However, one thing ALL PS1 emus lack on every system, including the PS2,is the ability to play games linked up via the VS Link cable option.Be really sweet to play some of the old Link games remotely over the net on a home console.

Has to be Popstation hands down. Then Bleemcast...

For Non-Console then ePSXe all the way.

i to would have to say the psp, but if that doesnt count, then i would go with pcsxbox, even with its problems its still the best.

The best PS1 emu is the PS2.

doesn't the ps2 just have (some) ps1 hw?
not really an emu then

It was best emulated on the Xbox and i believe the PSP aswell. The Dreamcast was okay but how can we say it was best emulated on that when only 3 games were released. Sure there were beta's that were leaked but those things played pretty horrible and of course without saving what makes a game without that "nothing".

Xbox was great you just had to really fool around with the settings to make the games run perfect i used to run Jetmoto 2 on it and it played perfect or near perfect.

The only problem i ran into was with the Sound sometimes studdering, missing music, and can slow down the game. On the other hand i believe PSP is probably the best way not to sure though as when this was released around the sametime Sony released PSone originals for the system someone used a hack to play PSone games on the system.

This made many happy i never tested it out but if i could imagine it would be the fastest system to play games on that and the PS3 emulated commercially.

PS3 and PS2 is best use of 2 analogue sticks and compatibility, PSP is a close second, Xbox is #3 if you tweak it a bit and last would be Bleemcast because there were only three games it worked with officially and 1 analogue stick blah...I leave out the PC version because it isn't fair to categorize it with the others as it is not a game console in my opinion but I do like the ePSXe emulator on it.

You can't count any of the Sony consoles because Ps1 playback is designed into the consoles, and bleemcast isn't really an emulator, so again Xbox wins.

I've never run a PS1 emulator on my Xbox, so I can't say anything about that...but I do enjoy ePSXe or whatever the popular PC version is called...Never have had too many problems with it.

for console id have to say xbox (altho its a little odd having 2 shoulder buttons mapped to the face of the controller)

never tried bleemcast, and psp is just irritating to me

the lack of 2 shoulder buttons and a second stick makes it darn near totally useless on many of the PS1's titles

ps2 was flawless, but as someone else mentioned it had PS1 hardware in it (i think the main cpu for the ps1 worked on sound) so it was not emulating anything

Obviously the PS2 and PSP run the games better than anything else. Bleemcast was good for the 3 or 4 games it could play, but compatibility is a big factor of a good emulator, and that just didn't have it. The beta's hardly worked as well. So for a console with an emulator coded by a third party, it has to be PCSXBOX or whatever it was called.

I'd like the PSP to count. It may be a commercial emulator but it works wonders.

The portability of the PSP makes it the most amazing PSX emulator out there. It may be "commercially made" but its hacked to allow us to put our own game collection onto our PSP's and enjoy them like we did so many years ago. It has made me pick up old games I haven't played in years. The lack of a second stick isn't much a problem in most games since most were made to work with just one in the PS1 era. The lack of shoulder buttons is slightly inconvenient for some games, but for the majority of games I have played, it works fine without them.

Naturally the ps3. It does emulate the ps1 (unlike the ps2) and with pretty good compatibility.

Do all PS3 emulate the PS1,or is it just the ones that also emulate the PS2?In other words do the new PS3 they make now emulate the PS1 even though they dont emulate PS2 anymore?

Hello:

Sorry on this one. I don't find a decent PSX emulator on a console. By far the best I tested is ePSXe for PC.

All PS3 models play PS1 games, even the PS3 slim, but only some early models play PS2 games as well because they've got the PS2 hardware, the emotion engine and/or the graphics synthesizer.

PS2's have the PS1 hardware in them the main CPU from the PS1, the LSI R3000A 32 bit RISC processor, is used as the I/O chip for the PS2 which is how full backwards compatibility on the PS2 is achievable.

the PSp\ps3 emulator is nice... i've never done emulation for ps1 on other consoles

bleemcast seems nice, never had it , but the video i saw on dreamcast is amazing!
