I'm seeing a lot of Quake ports, and I was wondering which one is the best. Thanks in advance :)

[And sorry about posting so many topics]

I've only tried RadQuake and NxMakaqu and NxMakaqu in my opinion is the better version to use.

RadQuake is good but the graphics are blurry due to the resolution it was playing at. NxMakaqu's graphics are much crisper and look good but are interlaced (every other line of pixels hrozontally is missing). I still prefer it to the blurry look of Rad Quake.

Both are good really and I'd have been happy with either, but since there's a choice, I prefer NxMakaqu. You can find the plain files here:

Cool, thank you :)

Just one more question: How does the structure go for burning it? (I tried burning it a couple times, but my Dreamcast wouldn't read it, and I also noticed there wasn't an IP.BIN or a 1ST_READ.BIN file on the disk either).

As they're plain files, you'll need to use a boot disc or some app to make it self booting. As a mac user I don't know what to advise, perhaps a PC user can suggest the right tools for the job.

If you use a boot disc try DC Hakker or Demo Menu Loader

http://www.dchomebrew.org/dchakker.shtml
http://www.dchomebrew.org/Demomnu.shtml

Once that's loaded, you swap discs and locate the scrambled bin on the Nxmakaqu disc.

But if you're interested in 3D like graphics, then try titaniam's port. It uses WinCE and isn't exactly legal, but it's also not exactly illegal. I recommend it over any homebrew port because of the why the textures are rendered.

YES! The boot disk loaded it! Thank you so much :)

...off to find titanium's port

EDIT: ...and I can't get it to work. I have the boot discs, the orignal PAKs and I've burned the disc in ISO 9660 format but nothing happens. Both DC hakker and Demo Menu freeze up and Utopia does nothing either. Balls.

Maybe it's because I have a Mac, I don't know. I don't think it would burn the ISO 9660 CD any differently than say Nero on a PC. Anyway 4 CD's later, I've given up on this port and I'll stick with nxMakaqu.

They're just different ways of playing Quake 1 on your Dreamcast. RadQuake and NxMakaqu are both homebrew software whilst Titanium's port is a direct port that the studio in their spare time.

There's a bit of info here about it and the other games Titanium produced whilst they were going:

http://www.titaniumstudios.com/games/games.html

None are CDI files, so people with the original Quake can add their full .PAK files from the original game.

Download HexQuake (http://quakedev.dcemulation.com/fragger/downloads.htm). It's a hex edited version of Titanium Studio's port.

Fackue, a thousand thanks¡

It works a treat and looks great too as there's no interlacing like on nxMakaqu. And I managed to get this one burned on me mac unlike the other Titanium release.

Thanks again.
