Gameshark Codes on emulators

I am currently using a RIN gameboy emulator and on the installation guide it stated that you could your own gameshark codes in the cheat folder. having spent time creating a txt folder with the cheats in how do i get it to work?

i have renamed the cheat document to *game*.tbh
every time i try to load this cheat it says that it has failed

what have i done wrong?
