Dave Jones, boss of Crackdown developer RealTime Worlds, has said that although his next title APB is a server-based game, it still needs to ship on a standard retail disc.

Users aren't yet ready to download full console titles said Jones, and although his company is prepared for the inevitable digital distribution of content, he's not going to be actively encouraging that new market.

"At the end of the day, we still have effectively a big client to distribute," he told VG247. "It's still a traditional game in that this is a five or six gig game. It has to ship on a DVD.

"Are we at the point yet where we feel comfortable that people want to bypass retail completely and download five or six gigs? No, we're not really comfortable with that.

"If that points comes in the future, which everyone's talking about, I think we'll be reactive to that. We won't try to be proactive in trying to make that happen," he added.

Jones gave a keynote speech this week at the Develop conference in Brighton, revealing that the company has considered multiple new and emerging business models, but for RealTime Worlds, the "big dollars" are still very much in the traditional home console market.
