The ever popular QuakeCon is just a short month away and the rabid hordes of Quakers are anxiously anticipating the chance to preview some upcoming games and compete in the yearly tournaments. Today the organizers finally revealed the specifics for each of the tournaments, including the overall shape of the competition and the prize money at stake.

id Software president Todd Hollenshead explains:

"This year stands to be our best ever with three incredible tournaments, including exclusive tournaments for professionals and amateurs, $50,000 in prize money, the greatest game ever made for first-person competition, an outstanding sponsorship partner in Intel, and the best broadcasting team on the Internet. Whether you're watching all of the action live on-site, or you're glued to your monitor at home, you can't afford to miss a second of these great players competing for one of the most coveted prizes in professional gaming -- the right to call yourself a QuakeCon Champion."
The Tournament will include three main events.

The Intel Quake Live Masters Championship
64 of the best Quake Live players (including "known professionals") will compete for more than $25,000 in a double elimination bracket in a best-of-three format. The final two players will face off in a best-of-five single elimination round on the main stage Saturday night with the winner taking home $14,000. Registration runs from noon to 3pm on Thursday, August 13.

The Intel Quake Live Open Tournament
Designed as a less intense version of the Masters Championship, the Open Tournament pits 64 amateur competitors in a single-elimination bracket, best-of-three format for a $2,500 purse, including $1,500 for the overall champion. Registration is first-come, first-serve at noon on Thursday.

The Quake Live Capture the Flag Championship, Sponsored by id Software
Up to 32 different teams will compete in 4v4 capture the flag matches in a single-elimination, best-of-three format. Winners will split $22,000, including a $12,000 prize for the overall winning team. Registration for teams begins at 2:30pm on Thursday.
