Why does everyone like Shenmue 2?!

I have it for my Dreamcast, it's horrific.

It is not to everyone's taste but I love the world and the overwhelming amount of detail in it. Most adventure games use fantasy settings but this uses Hong Kong and China in the mid-80s and it is so detailed I felt I had got a flavour of what it is like there. It is basically a cross between an adventure game and a beat-em-up.

It has a pretty good fighting engine in it, and you have to adopt different fighting styles for different opponents as you go through the game - which sound a bit like the unfinished Bruce Lee film Game Of Death concept, now that I think of it. There is even a bit where you have to make your way up a building and on each floor you find a new opponent with a different style of fighting, so maybe Game Of Death was an influence.

The first game isn't as well balanced as Shenmue 2. it is fun in it's way but really serves as a very long prologue to the real game in Shenmue 2.

It's difficult to pick, what with games being such transient things but here's some memorable ones for me (in no particular order):

Donkey Kong (Nintendo LCD Game & Watch)
Scramble (Grandstand Table top game)
Chuckie Egg (Acorn Electron)
Frak! (Acorn Electron)
Hobgoblin 1 & 2 (Acorn Electron)
Zany Kong Junior (Acorn Electron)
Way Of The Exploding Fist (Acorn Electron)
Ghosts and Goblins (Arcade - never got very far)
Outrun & Space Harrier (Hydraulic arcade cabinets)
Silkworm (Amiga)
SWIV (Amiga)
Pinball Dreams (Amiga)
Midnight Resistance (Amiga)
Street Fighter II Turbo (Snes)
Mario Kart (Snes)
Super Probotector: Alien Wars (Snes)
Soul Calibur (Dreamcast)
Ikaruga (Dreamcast)
Rayman 2 (Dreamcast)
Outrun 2 (Xbox)

There's far too many really. Nostalgia really is a stong thing. I have good memories of playing loads Speccy games with friends when I was a kid, waiting for the cassettes to finish loading all the horrible screeching noises.

As for the current gen, I guess I'm not as grabbed by games as I used to be but I really like Gears 2, CoD3 multiplayer and Guitar Hero 2 on 360.
