Only thing I've ever used was a cantenna and it works great!

The internal wireless card I have installed on my PC has a range of 200M (656ft), the signal is great for picking up the neighbours routers (or people who aren't my neighbours). Except if the routers that are the furthest don't have a decent transmitting range but can be picked up (I always thought a long distance receiver would sort that), though there must be a way around it if like me and looking to gain an extra connection when your own is playing up.
But around the home, or in your garden they work flawlessly.

Dude, that's the exact cantenna I have!
I modded my phat psp with an SMS adaptor to hook it up. It has an awesome range!
Very easy mod, the cantenna costs $50 and can hook up to routers.
