Looks like those Sony 2TB memory sicks we warned you about way back in January are finally coming to pass, and Sony Insider has dug up the details. As appearing on Sony's oss-formats.org site, the Memory Stick XC keeps the current form factor for memory sticks (most likely these guys will be backwards compatible) with the XC series (XC Duo, XC-HG Duo, XC Micro (M2 XC), XC-HG Micro (M2 XC-HG)) using the exFAT file system, and the PRO series (including the PRO Duo, PRO-HG Duo, Micro (M2), HG Micro (M2-HG)) using the tried and true FAT12/16/32. Memory freaks can thrill to the specifications for the new class after the break.

The big question is... will a PSP be able to handle this kind of memory stick?

To be honest. theres no point even asking the question!

At the moment, the average sized card is 8gb. Were only just getting 16gb cards at a reasonable price, 32gb cards are hugely expensive.

So imagine how many times more expensive a 2000gb card is compared to 32gb?

Itl be 10 years before they are affordable, by then wel be on psp evo go 3 or whatever itl be called.

It's not about if the Psp will ever hold a 2tb card, the question is whether it can be made compatible with MS XC cards because current memory sticks are unlikely to grow over what they do now so 32gb is the limit, and only 16gb on the Psp go.

of course sony would make things compatible with their own products

I cannot gather that amount of data with all the media I have, combined.

Imagine loosing the card

Meh!, that's simply too much I just need another 16Gb microsd and I'll be more than happy

A 1tb hard drive cost +-100 us$ so the price of this is going to be insane

Seems like a waste of money to even develop such a thing at this point in time, but I guess its a drop in the bucket since Sony is rockin the marketplace hard.

Sony reported a net loss of ¥37 billion (US$388 million as of the last day of the period being reported) during the April to June period, a reversal from a ¥35 billion profit in the same period of 2008

I don't know why people are thinking about the cost and how they'll be using the 2tb card, because the capacity increase will stick to the standard yearly double up and prices will stay similar to now.. So by my reckoning it will be at least 6 years for a 2tb card, but probably longer to develop the tech and stretch the profits, and with all the new hd devices and umpc's coming in we'll definately need that kind of capacity.

i think i'll wait for a 2 TB MS. i'm happy with a 32 GB MS.

i ordered one of these micro sdhc to MS adapter (http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=209974140) and put 2 16 GB micro sdhcs in it. works like a charm and is relatively inexpensive!

So imagine how many times more expensive a 2000gb card is compared to 32gb?Unless there's been a huge technological trick come up lately, a 2TB stick is probably going to be about five-thousand dollars at launch, if they do one anytime soon.

Memory stick Pro Duo have always been over priced

8 gb SD = $29.99
8 gb MS = $54.99
