Some .rom and .z64 extentions do not show up on the menu, its a must to rename them to .v64, then it will show on the menu. This list is not final as it may be a bad dump or was tested on an older version. Feel free to test them again yourself and post your findings. We now ask that you post what version you tested this on with your name to make it easier to see what tested games are up to date. ~Kaiser

Okay on my first try on loading the emu it crashed. Remember not to try and hide the corrupted files on 1.5, as it works fine now when I un-hide them. None of my zelda games even show up on the rom list. Cruisin the USA loads but freezes at the license screen.

Still testing and will update the list as I get through my list roms.

for some reason super mario 64 will not work for me. In the readme it says roms must be under 8 mb and super mario 64 is 8,192 kb and it wont load. Should i be using the gta or tiff loader? my fw is 2.0. Thanks for any help

Wipeout 64- dosen't load at all.
San Fransico Rush 2049- Menus work but it freezes when you try to get in-game.
Banjo-Kazooie- doesn't load at all.
Yoshi's Story- Never ending text goes down your screen really fast.
Lode Runner 3-D- Playable! though its very slow and has graphical errors.
Lego Racers- Stays at a black screen.

If someone wants me to test a rom just tell me what it is.

hmm this emulator seems nice and all since its running comercial roms but for some reason I don't see it going any were like Monkey's emu because he is building his emulator from the ground up. And I think a n64 emulator has to be specifically made and not ported for the PSP to get a good optomized well speed emulator. But great work I'm glad to see a n64 emulator is finally booting Mario64 on the PSP. I give you my 100% support as along side Monkey who I will always support 100% on his emulator too. :)

Mischeif Makers (US) - Crashes at titlescreen (also crashes at Enix logo if you don't click pass it fast)
Flying Dragons (US) - White jumping borders and then just crashes
Wonder Project J 2 (Jap) - textures are all white , crashes after clicking away what i suspect is a message about memorycard not inserted but one can only speculate

Automobili Lamborghini - Loads but it only shows the name and some while lines (background is red)
Charlie Blast's Territory - Loads but REALLY slow. Options open. The game opens and runs VERY. First level plays well but very slow. The second level starts and everything but I did not play it because its very slow...
Dr. Mario 64 - Opens but its just a black background a white thing that starts as a square but then it covers the whole screen and the game comes up. It has a lot of unloaded textures. I kept pressing X for a while and some things kept moving. Then the game started. The graphics kept stuck and the screen did not refresh so it just kept piling up textures.
Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits Volume 1 - Opens with a black background and white thing. Then a text starts appearing untill it covers the entire PSP.
Virtual Chess 64 - Loads. Might go in game, its so slow I did not bother to try.... But graphics all seem good.

Just curose as how u r going to speed it up and how fast the ported emu will play after everything is done? Its probaly a better aproach to make it from scratch like monkey withch i suspose in the end will run faster.

jman420
May 2nd, 2006, 06:14
its not an issue of speed here smart stuff... there is a lot that goes into emulation, there needs to be a dynamic recompiler reprogrammed for PSP so that it can compile the game on a frame to frame basis..

also the rendering engine isnt quite made for psp now is it?? it was a computer port using driver DLL's for computer.. all of which would need to be modified for PSP usage, now.. it is possible that the PSMonkey emulator may end up faster in the long run, and it is possible that this emulator will be better then PSMonkeys, it all has to do with what is incorperated into the software.. if its left as a PC emulator (as it currently is) it will end up exactly the same.. if parts of it are modified and ported even farther into the PSP, it could far outpass Monkey64, its just a matter of who is going to program the never-ending code for the psp to understand..

the other thing is, the Media Engine could vastly improve the emulation in a sence, the ME could be somewhat of a processing cache, or if anyone knows how, a pre-compiler for the 3d rendering.. it is still just a port of a PC program tho.

but that general idea didnt stop the people that ported SNES9X, it needed to be rebuilt, and TYL is still just a port..

ports work, but they arent the greatest just because it is possible to make somthing better when its made for PSP, and PSP alone..

Hey guys, I figured someone ought to update the Daedalus configuration file so it actually reflects what works and what doesn't. I had to take some educated guesses, but this should mostly reflect the results that everyone has gotten here.

To install this file, rename it "daedalus.ini", then copy to "/PSP/GAME/daedalus". Make sure you overwrite the old file!

Enjoy!

Super Smash Brothers-----no in game, only menus
Mario Kart----some in game, but not playable (when I hit someone not too long after the race began, the PSP crashed)

Note to testers-

Some Roms take a looong time to start, be patient. Just because nothing happens for 5 minutes doesn't mean it has crashed. (If the power light goes off, it HAS crashed!)

Sometimes if you are stuck on a blank screen, it may be waiting for keypress.

Some games crash randomly, so you might get as far as the intro screen first time, and you might get as far as in-game play on second try.

well then, it must not work.

oh and just an fyi, after you beat the door that requires at least 1 star, and you leave, the textures from that world then appear all over the castle and replace the other textures. And this happens with the door with 3 stars (penguin slide) level aswell, except the textrues from it are all messed up all around it.

Very true Infernux....I was playing & all the sudden Mario's eyes were all over the sky & he looked like he was sporting shades + a lot of other textures kept getting mixed up. It was freakin' hilarious and also amazing to watch....I'll post some pics here in a little bit...

On second thought, I can't post them at all really...It seems the emulators snapshot thingie got corrupted as well when the whole textures mix up thing happened...I do have the five snapshots in the emu's folder but they're the only ones that my PC doesn't recognize. They don't even have thumbnails like the other snapshots I took or kb size even...Hmm...wierd

I'll give it another try with IRshell's screen capture next time around....Just be a little patient and I will post them right here..

Here they are! Before entering the level everything looks normal...I found out the glitches started when I did a double jump and dove right into the Huge Chomp's mouth...that's when things started getting wierd...notice the eyes inside the floor dust on pic 2...then it progressively got worse...Enjoy!

I'm looking at this right now....WOW! MUCH FASTER....Ridge Racer took like a second to load and that game is 32MB...Good Find Hervé! everybody should try this...

I also want to add that Tool64 will probably rename your .z64 & .v64 roms to .n64, wich will not run in the Daedalus Emu, so just rename them manually after you convert them...This is good for unzipped roms only, because you'll still have to wait some time for zipped roms to load...Anyways, so far Mario 64 seems to be the farthest running game and it's only 8MB so I guess it's no biggie of an ish, if you know what I mean.

Well to answer your question no this is not the right place to ask. We cant tell you where to find roms either....Man don't i remmember asking that very same thing when i first started with homebrew but if you stick with it you will learn how to teach yourself and figure things out. For now i would suggest Google. If you ever need to find anything start with google and you will find it. Now we need to stop spamming on the forms.

Hello everyone

Infernux & JmanUmmkay:

- I took the pictures with my favorite homebrew shell...IRshell...As far as I know it only runs in 1.50 PSP's.

- Like accordian boy said....No the game won't run faster when it gets all glitchy.

- I also want to add that this will happen in Mario 64 only if you stay long enough in the first level and constantly toggle the views with the shoulder "R" button...The game will remain glitchy till you decide to quit the emulator*tested*. However if you start Mario 64 and make a speed run to beat the Bob Omb King boss in level 1-1 you won't get the glitches*also tested*

- Has anyone gotten further than the Matchup screen in Smash Bros? My rom freezes everytime I am about to engage battle with the first CPU opponent wich always happens to be Link...in the zelda stage of course...If you view the stage maps in the other game modes it also freezes when you toggle onto this stage too...Every other stage seems to be viewable......I guess Zelda is just plain bad luck on this emu.

The following tests were conducted on a 1.5 psp running the emulator version R4 through irshell and overclock to 333MHz Sry for not using the colors, just read the review and you can imagine how playable it is.

Super Smash Brothers-----------Intro movie runs MUCH faster, at around 10 fps. Menu text now shows.

Starfox--------- Runs slower than the other version. At the menu's the game goes as fast as 3 fps. can actually get to the first level of single player mode, but crashes before it gets in game. Training mode works just like in last time.

Super Mario 64----------- about the same opening speed, at about 7 fps. Shading on the characters is now correct, no more blue. Text boxes now have a black background. Textures in the 1 star door also work, and dont ruin the castle textures once the level is left. Textures only started up replacing others after slippin and sliding away on lv3. Overall runs slower in my opinion then the R3 version.

Rocket: Robot on Wheels--------Loads up starting surprisingly fast at 25 fps. HOwever, it crashes when trying to load a game.

Mario 64's textures started replacing eachother right after I got the first star by beating the Bob-omb King. Then I played the princess slide level, and it got even worse . BTW I'm using R4 through GTA on 2.5. Anyone else had this happen on R4?

Infernux
May 6th, 2006, 06:58
I didnt beat the bomb king on level one, instead, i just got the star from behind chomp's gate. Much faster. Then i went tot the castle and beat the rock dude that wants to flatten you. Then went to the princess slide level, and then went to the penguin slide level. After that slide the textures started messing up.

Oh, and i have a video of Goldeneye almost in game. All the textures are missing except for one and it is really blurry but other than that it gets almost in game then crashes.

well im on 2.6 and with r3 i found the more times i tried roms the better they worked.

like with bomberman hero i found the more times i exited the emulator and went back in the better it was.
first time i played it all i got was an intro.
second time i got to the level select.
third time i could play.
it was pretty slow but worked with very few texture problems. the only wrong textures were those little radio things on the floor and the bombs a little bit.

will have to try r4 today.

I put N64 roms in %folder and renamed them to .v64 but they don't show up on the menu and when they try to load the psp turns off.Cheers Gazz. :)
I hate lazy people who don't even read the readme...but I still try to help them =p
directly from the readme:

Using Daedalus
**************

Installation
------------

Copy the Daedalus folder to the \PSP\GAME\ folder on your PSP (for
the v1.5 firmware release you should also copy across the Daedalus%
folder).

Roms
----

Roms should be copied to the Roms subdirectory within the
Daedalus folder. Daedalus recognises most roms formats (.v64, .z64,
.rom etc) and will also run roms compressed within .zip files.

When Daedalus boots with a zipped rom, for performance reasons it
will attempt to decompress it to a temporary file on your memory
stick before execution. If you are low on free space, it is
recommended that you keep the original rom file on your PC, and
manually extract the rom to your Roms directory.

so you shuold put your roms inside a folder called roms, inside the daedalus folder(not the % one).....heck there is even a file called put your roms here inside that folder.....
and for everyone who doesn't like the conversion/decompressing times, just change all your roms to little endian(.n64) and don't zip them....the first version of daedalus ran byteswapped without converting them, dunno why it is like this now....but it is going to be fixed in the next release anyway

definatly try this one guys.

one other thing when it says new game to start do not press x straight away. wait a few seconds or the game will crash.

* Quest64--------black screen and psp shuts down after 1min (on R4 it loads and runs but is all Purple and hard to see)

* Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The (I have not tried it yet but people said it works at least a little)

I managed to get snowboard kids working on the training section and that worked ok albeit a tad slow.

Mariokart works really quite fast on time trial mode and you see how fast it can go if you get a turbo start but then crashes randomly about 7 seconds into the trial.

Spiderman loads and is quite playable (apart from it being a black & purple extravaganza)

This is a great speed up on the R4 version and my greatest thanks to people like Strmnnrmn and PSmonkey who are developing emu's which I think are the only things which are keeping the PSP going at the moment (sorry for going slightly off track). My thanks also to PSDonkey for compiling this so that we can have a sneak preview at what the debugged R5 version will be like. :)

I tested quite a few games, most of those went to the main menus but wouldn't go further.

These games I got ingame but would either crash after a few seconds or everything was too purple and textureless to play...

Extreme G
Extreme G XG2
Hexen
Quake
Rush 2
San Fransico Rush

I didn't found any roms that were playable, either because of speed, texture, or crashing issues.
I didn't test any Mario or Zelda games because I don't like them.

Mario Party 3: Really buggy, freezes.

I played ultimate fighter on nintendo r6 emulator i was so suprised when i got to the intro 40fps!!!!!:D amazing just as fast as the real thing but there were a few glitches such as the fact that i could not choose different modes due to not being able to access the menu using the d-pad. The fps was still goin strong but when i got into the fight it went down to 12fps  which was very annoyin but the fact it went to speeds f 40fps is a great breakthrough and maybe nintendo emulator coders can utilize this to create faster frame skips for all games.
