Raf and the PSP Radio Team (http://pspradio.berlios.de/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=444) have released a new version of the Links Homebrew web browser:

Heres whats new:

- Now screenshot directory is created by default. Also filenames now say links_..png instead of pspradio_...png
- Now it won't load network modules if f/w version is 2.0+ (hope this allows it to work via eLoader).
- Added download directory configuration for AVC MP4 files. Added support for 'other' download directory.
- OpenSSL ported to the PSP. Links now links against it to provide SSL support.
- Updated to version 2.1-pre21.
- L+ UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT now scrolls the screen in those directions.

Great to see updates to this. This is what 1.50 PSP users especially need. A sweet web browser that rivals the one built into 2.00+ firmware. I never liked Sony's browser. This is promising work. Thank you Raf & PSP Radio Team.

works great on my 2.01 :) useless... but it works :), too bad it crashes when its out of memory, cant you make it stop downloading and allocating memory instead of just stopping the app (dunno...)

great web browser but how do i make it connect with my desired access point?

Same questions here.

I have two network connections setup, work and home, and when it home it works fine, but at work it keeps choosing my home connection. Of course both have different SSID' and are even on a different class C internally.

So anyway to force it one or the other through a config file or something?

I hope they update the browser in PSPRadio soon, because I do like having the 2 programs bundled together.

However, I might give this one a try if the memory issues have been resolved. Has anyone used this long enough to find out if memory allocation is still a problem?

Skye

Yes, joesnose is correct. It will automatically choose the first connection.

Well, this is awesome news indeed! Small problem though, on my 1.5 I installed this, and set up my PSP so that I only have one Wifi connection available... and this newest version of Links2 refuses to connect! I double-checked thinks, the previous version still works, the version in PSPRadio works, both using either DHCP or static address... I even checked to make sure the wireless switch was turned on (i know we've all made that mistake before ;) )... so I'm at a loss...

When I start Links2, I get the initialization messages, and everything seems to be ok -- it goes by pretty fast, but there are no errors that i can see... when the app is started, I try to go to any web site and I get a "Connection Refused" error.

Anyone have suggestion, tips, ideas as to what i'm doing wrong?

Thanks In Advance...

works great! super fast, better then the sony browser.

also, for those of you wondering, i dont think it has crashed from the memory issue once since i have used it.

Hasnt crashed with memory allocation on me too.But a conection scanner/chooser would be a great additiion to next release as a lot of people seem to be having trouble with multiple conections or even finding theres

People ask for a connection scanner,
And I wonder if im missing somthing,
Shouldnt the connection scanner built into the psps network options work fine for this ?
I mean the psp has one by default doesnt it?

Still tho maybe im missing the point entirely, I havnt had sleep yet

Heh, if i hadnt used links before id be confused too.
if you drag the mouse to the top left and push "x" the file menu comes up. you then select goto or whatever. then when the address thing comes up you hit "start" to type.

It does, but I believe developers are trying to stay away from Sony incorporated processes for the PSP for compatibility reasons.

Not to mention it looks alot better having it all done inside the program.

The PSPRadio release has a connection chooser, so I think it wont be too long until the standalone gets one.

I have done some testing with it, going to sites that normally gave me memory issues on the PSPRadio version.

So far no memory allocation issues, which is great. I have also noticed that the keyboard is faster and doesnt ghost anymore (it does in the PSPRadio version, which might have been due to memory issues).

There are also alot more improvements. Clicking on an image now works (it didn't in PSPRadio version, so I could tell).

Great release so far :).

holy crap this browser is sick. it's actually better in my opinion than the sony one since it has an easy-to-use keyboard. but would it ever be possible to implement a flash or java player into this?

Fantastic! Really.
I love Links :P
A network chooser would be good, though.

When i load this up, it starts out immed with a no connection warning, but when i goto the url input bar, i typed in a site, and it loaded up fine. looks like it wont work at first, but then jus goto a site, and it loads right up. great!!

does anybody know about the possibility of a flash player?

F9zDark
May 13th, 2006, 00:04
It may be possible, but we don't know yet.

Problem I see with having it play flash is memory consumption. It may be a big problem when flash is thrown into the mix.

I mean, just using the PSPRadio version and the standalone will show you that its very difficult to run 2 things at once on the PSP.

Just listening to music via PSPRadio and surfing this site in the Links plugin would cause it to crash due to memory allocation problems.

Flash would be dealing with sound and video. I can imagine memory issues galore with that...

good call, thanks for the response. i'm sure that someday soon these homebrew programmers will make it happen. it would be amazing if the need to update did not even exist. and by that i mean that when the ps1 emulator comes out, pspsone will be playable. when eyetoy comes out, there will be a driver for it on 1.5. and maybe even when gps comes out, there will be a solid homebrew app for that too (this seems the least likely to me). eventually i think i will end up upgrading but for a while i hope to have all the features on 1.5 that there are on whatever is the newest firmware.

isnt 1.5 better to have- i mean more compatible?

wut is it about 1.0 that you wont upgrade... off topic for a sec sorry..

That means you are not connected to the internet make sure your wlan switch is on and that the network you want to connect to is the first one on the network connections list.

K, I figured that part out again, I forgot that since I downgraded my PSP, it got rid of my Internet Connections list. I got it working and it's great, faster than the original browser on 2.0FW.

Great Job On This!!! :D
