Yeah Yeah, The next build of monkey64 is here. Here is the readme file.

BIG NOTE - SEE THE COMPATIBILITY LIST FOR MICROCODES FIRST BEFORE RUNNING ROMS. SETTING THE WRONG MICROCODE WILL CAUSE THE GAME TO NOT PLAY PROPERLY OR CRASH YOUR PSP.

EDIT by $n!pR: Please be sure to check the HOWTO (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=20345) for installation instructions.

Well go enjoy, you spam monkeys!!

// Monkey 64 v2.0

// Monkey 64 by PSMonkey

// Icon by pochi
http://pochistyle.pspwire.net/

// NOTE
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
This emulator is not in an advance state yet. It runs commercial roms but with glitches & speed issues.
Please give me time to be able to advance the emulator far enough to play more games at a reasonable speed.
Please also do not bother me regarding the speed. It is running off a pure interpreter core which
is slow. I will get a dynamic recompiler core in as soon as I can get things much further.

// MICROCODE NOTE
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Please note that before running a rom you must set the proper microcode. If you do not set the proper microcode
the game could crash your psp or show up incorrectly. Please see compatibility.html for a list of proper microcodes
for each game.

// Info
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Monkey64 is an n64 emulator started from scratch that takes the psp limitations into consideration. The
ultimate goal is solid n64 emulation at 30-60fps on the psp. This will not come instantly but maybe 6 months
now it will be a reality.

At the current time Monkey64 supports a large array of n64 homebrew / PD roms that draw to the framebuffer & commercial roms.
While not all commercial roms run & the ones that do are a bit glitchy, things are improving on a daily basis.

// Change List
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

- 2.0 -
.) Way too much to list, Commercial roms work.
.) Fast 3D/SW 2.0, Fast 3D Ext, F3DEX1.0 & F3DEX2.0 Microcodes supported
.) Many gfx & Hle issues still exist. Missing a surface clipper & n64 combiner support.
.) 4Kb Eeprom supported
- (if you wish to use your eeproms from pc emu's, rename them the same as the rom and change the extension to .epr)

- 1.0 -
.) First Release, Runs a majority of homebrew roms that render directly to the CFB.

// To Use
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
1) Create a folder labeled "n64" on the root of your memory stick.
2) Copy your roms into the "n64" folder (roms MUST NOT be zipped).
..) Example "G:\n64\" (replace G: with your psp drive letter)
3) Copy the files from the folder containing your psp version number
..) Example, 1.0 users will go into "1.0 or 2.0" folder and copy the psp directory to the root of the memory stick.
4) Run the software :)

// Controls

May 11th, 2006, 23:51
IF you dont have a rom that is not 4-16mb it will not work. anything above 16 will crash and power off your PSP.

Believe me i have been there and done that.

I have completed the following list so that you can see whats good to play

AeroGauge (U) [!].z64
Rugrats - Scavenger Hunt (U) [!].z64
Virtual Pool 64 (U) [!].z64
Snowboard Kids (E) [!] - Not worth the wait of 40 mins.
Puyo Puyo Sun 64 (J) [!].z64 - Not really playable, screen flashes a hell of a lot
Super Mario 64 (U) [!].z64
Quest 64 (U) [!].z64

V3N0M
May 11th, 2006, 23:52
FOR EVERYONE THAT IS HAVING PROBLEMS JUST MAKE A NEW FOLDER IN THE ROOT OF YOUR MEM STICK NAMED "n64" exactly. put your roms in there and your set just adjust the microcode to the game and play.

May 12th, 2006, 00:10
salomon: you don't put the roms in the mp_root folder... you create a folder called n64 NEXT TO the mp_root folder (which is also in the root directory), then put your roms in that.

also, others might want to make sure that they are using the correct version for their firmware.

hope that helps.

salomon st

ZFB8
May 12th, 2006, 00:11
To all those who said it wasn't working: MAKE SURE YOU'RE NOT PUTTING THE ROMS IN MP_ROOT, BUT INSTEAD, THE ROOT OF YOUR MEMORY STICK!

I noticed someone say they put it in mp root. The root of the mem stick means wherever you open the mem stick, that's wheree you put it. Not in any folder. Like go to my computer and click on your PSP. What comes up next is the root. The PSP and MP_ROOT folders are in the root, so just make the n64 folder in that place, next to the other two folders.

Damn people, this is what READMES are for -__-"

And btw, excellent screenshots, I'm about to try it out right now.

Damnit, I'm trying to find a different dump because mine kept getting an opcode error on Mario 64. Btw, does the file extension matter? I tried both z64 and v64, both crashed. Also, does it matter if it was byteswapped? I converted it to little endian so it would work on Daedalus, so would that affect it?

Vega
May 12th, 2006, 01:02
I dont think this works on 2.6 . I have read the instructions through and I cant get Mario64 to run at all. Anyone on 2.6 get Mario running?

The menu loads no problem, just static when the rom loads (sort of like the previous build)

Im not REALLY complaining first of all.

but, why is this emulator so complicated, why do we have to read this compatibility list everytime i want to load a rom... cant you make the emulator choose this on its own, it saves alot of hassle... anyway whatever ( I AM NOT COMPLAINING ).

Thanks.

WOW Great work on this emulator PSmonkey I'm still shocked on all the progress you made in the short amount of time you had. Look how long it took for a decent n64 emulator for the computer and they had a "computer" to work with. You have a simple PSP that is very limited for the most part but your pulling it off. Man that stupid PS1 emulator that they showed at E3 means nothing to me if you finish this emulator. Soon I will be able to play super mario kart 64 against my friends. Also PSmonkey I have one more questioni I'm not asking when this will be implemnted so let me just make my self clear on that. But is it possible to even pull off ad hoc mode on n64 emulatioin on the PSP. Like I just want to know if its even possible to pull it off seing that the roms are bigger and stuff.....But playing super smash bros. 64 against my friends one day portablly would be awsome! And once again great work PSmonkey :)

Just a suggestion though, if you are in contact with Strmn Nmrn (or however u spell his name) could you guys both decide on a shared folder where our roms could be placed??? It is annoying to have 2 roms, one for the Daedelus folder and another for yours.

May 12th, 2006, 05:54
yeah ok sorry guys.

I understand the difficulty curve on using this emu is very high. This is sadly because I did not want to fail on my promiss for an e3 build. A revision is next week that will suport an ini list for microcodes. I know I could add code into the hle to guess the microcode but that is not a good way to do it (its slow, sometimes wrong and not worth the over head).

If you see polygons missing, Half of that is due to supid psp clipping. I need to either sub divide stuff or clip to view. Will try something soon enough to fix this.

If you cant load a rom, check the folder, microcode & make sure fast tlb is off. Fast tlb was first done for mario but i did not go further with it. The reason is it eats up 8MB of space for the tlb list. :(

Anyways again. Sorry about the difficulty but I will try to bring a solution next week.

Here's what I want to know - what kind of FPS'es are we talking, per game (mostly, I just want to know how Mario 64 performs)?
Does it have sound support?
What kind of glitches are we seeing in games?
How does it compare, advantages and disadvantages-wise, to Daedalus?
Basically, is it worth my while to download if I already have Daedalus?

You using Fast3D or Fast3D Ext. I think there is an error in the list and it states mario64 is Fast3d Ext when its not. Its Fast3D.

If you see 2d sprites but no 3d. Its more then likly the wrong microcode. Check some of the compatibility threads here to see if maybe the wrong one was listed in the document.

That's exactly what happened when I used Fast3D EXT microcode, you have to set microcode to just Fast3D and disable fast tlb and you will be fine.

EDIT: yeah, exactly what PSmonkey said, sorry, took a break in the middle of writing this post and didn't realize he'd already responded.

Has anybody checked to see if EEPROM saves from Project64 are compatible with Monkey64? I notice that Monkey64 saves them in a different extension (.EPR vs. .EEP), but I assume that you can just change the extension from the PJ64 save to .EPR and it should work. But I am too busy to test this right now.

i am not exactly helping the spam situation here but oh well
if someone asks a question, there is no point loads more people asking the same question for 10 pages, it wont make the answer come quicker.
i can understand snipers view, the readme is there for a reason, i worked it out with my eyes closed... thats not direspect, i actually did, i was half asleep, the stir of excitement kept me awake long enough to see mario jump out of the tunnel, then i fell asleep with my head stuck to the psp screen.

this thread makes me want to cry
PSmonkey you really need to set up a news thread, which only you and your contributors/ testers can post in. i dont want to destroy the community feel, but this is a joke

Allright I downloaded this about 12 hours ago and i have not yet gotten to use it, simply because it wont work on my 2.60 psp... I have now set the emenu on autostart, that fixed my previousely problem that made my psp unable to load roms. Now the only rom i have gotten to load is super smash brothers, all the other 4 roms wont load. But when i load the rom it says something like "illegal 32bit memory read at 0x80400000 <PC:0x80400000>", what am i doing wrong? plz help i am really tired of never getting to use this emu :)

Its a graphics error, just hit O to continue (if you want to load a savefile, just make sure its in the first slot).

PSMonkey, In the next release of this great emulator! it would be better to just be able to select the rom, & the game starts instead of having to set the correct microde.

please reply to this question on what you think

Thanks for this Fantastic Emulator!!!!!!

AS for list revision i am redoing PSmonkeys Compatibility list as we speak

Hopefully by next week the list will be easier for everyone to read and screenshots of games which take over 30mins just to get in game will be shown.

We only need 2 or 3 compatibility lists. One Official and the others just unofficial :)
