It's received some good reviews, can record 25GB onto a single-layer Blu-ray disc in 45 minutes, and now it's available for purchase -- if you've got a grand to spare. We're talking, of course, about Pioneer's BDR-101A Blu-ray burner, one of the first products of its kind to hit store shelves. The 2X E-IDE internal burner for PCs is now available from Tiger Direct for $999.99, and the etailer claims it will ship units in "7-21 days." Start clicking if you just can't bear to wait. And don't forget to budget an extra $25 a pop for those blank BD-Rs.

Don't worry in the next few years the price will go down just as DVD players did.

yeah i don't get why people hate on sony heres how i see it

u'll want a blue ray or hd player eventualy(about 700- 800$)
and you want gaming (200-400$)

if you get a wii and a blue ray/hd player 900-1000$
360 and and a blue ray/stand alone hd player 1100-1200$
or a ps3 (gaming and blue ray) for 600$

Yeah the PS3 is going to be just like the PS2 when it gets released. The ps2 was the cheapest DVD player at the time in Japan which is a big reason it sold so well. DVD caught on faster here in the states than it did in Japan. It will be the same for the PS3. Still it's to expensive for me now especially with bills, mortage payment and whatever, but 600 bucks is pretty damn good considering what all is coming with the PS3. I just can't fork out that kind of cash. Plus other companies will be coming out with blue-ray burners after xmas and in about a year or two prices will be more reasonable. My guess is 399 by the end of 2007 on burners.

this is a burner though it's bound to be more expensive than your average player.

The HD DVD add on for 360 will probably cost $100 since HD DVD is much cheaper. A player only is like 400. DVDs were expensive when they were very new, but like in 1999 my family bought a Sony DVD player for only like $300.
Blu ray will probably fail, since only PS3 owners will use it.
