It was just over 10 years ago that Sega made the ill-fated move to release the Dreamcast, taking it down a road that would result in the company ditching the hardware scene entirely -- well, almost entirely. Out of the deal we got this wonderful white console, which Jay Hauf has remembered with this bit of simple hackery. He's popped the D-pad out, removed the controller's bottom-mounted cable, threaded an iPhone dock through, then, apparently, went back to creating cute little box-headed figurines. It's perhaps not the most amazingly complex controller mod of all time, but a worthy one nevertheless.

totally agree... i kindof think the designs wrong. it looks like you cut some holes in a controllers, it sucks... maybe kinda cool if you have it comming from a VMU Port, but other wise you just wasted a controller :(

The VMU port would have been nicer... But I'm guessing whoever made that has no creativity.

Yeah, it's a stupid hack, posted only to be laughed at. It's not as bad as gutting a PS3 for a shell for an NES hack, but it's still bad.

Yeah, that would be funny - "Look! My NES has better graphics than the Wii!" :rofl:

Part of it depends on the availability of the stuff - you can find NES consoles everywhere for a dime a dozen. It's no loss to hack up a NES for parts. Well, maybe certain models are more scarce, but those will be priced high enough to alert you that those shouldn't be used for hacks.

Another part of whether it's a good hack is how useful is the final product. Does it generate a sense of "wow". The OP is using a DC controller as a stand for an iPhone. That generates a dull "thud", not a "wow". As others mentioned above, it would have been a FAR better hack to make it take the place of a VMU, especially if it had left the controller working.

Very true about the availability of NESes. A fully functional PS3 inside a NES would be something. :P

A USB or iPod charger in place of a VMU slot retaining controller functionality would be sweet. :)

You could mod the controller itself to fit the iPod Touch. ;)
