Ghoti (http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?t=5800) posted this news:

I'm busy with a lumines clone with alot of extra's. I've finished version 0.1 of my game Boxy II. It has only the essentials in it. But i'd like you guys to play a little around and report bugs in this tread if you like :)

Game:

It's a lumines clone. You drop blocks of four colorized blocks on each other. The idea is to get as many squares of the same color. Every level you get new backgrounds. There are several bonuspoints for doing some great things with the blocks.

Special on this version are the two new game modes. Chaos and Trigame.

Chaos is a new game mode in which alot of extra's can be done. Special explosion blocks that eliminate the surrounding blocks in a given area, anti-gravity time, compact frenzy, drunken man and some small other extra bonusses.

Trigame: Trigame is lumines with three kinds of colors. This will make the game more interesting.

Boxy II is fully customizable. You can make your own skins (or themes) that can be placed in the themes directory.

ToDO:

- the two game modes are yet to be implemented
- special blocks which delete every attached block of the same color
- ingame menu
- game over screen
- options

What i need from you guys if you want:

- Themes :D if have only three themes yet with this release
- bugs feedback
- some info if it works on FW 2.0 or how i can let it work on 2.0
- only usefull feedback please, i'm just starting with psp programming, it's my first game so don't expect to much.

Very nice! Can I ask for one feature?

MUSIC! Let us put in mp3 background music that changes with the background skins and loops, also let us add sounds to the button tapping. Then you'll have a game that rivals lumines!

It would only take two config lines in the skin file, background music and button tap music. Of course mp3 support might be a little tough at first, but there are plenty of people out there that could help.

Oh, then less importantly but still really cool (you're probably already planning this) multiplayer! Ad-hock preferably.

Otherwise, congrats on a great game!

excellent release, you should make it more look like ATSC bc that looked like more of a lumines look. GREAT RELEASE!

Just found some bugs.

For one, when the moving line cuts my blocks in half because I joined them while it was moving over the spot I was on the half that didn't disappear still disappeared the next sweep even though I hadn't joined any more blocks to it. So basically a 2 block peice disappeared.

Then on the second level the blocks locked up but the sweeping line and the timer kept going..... Uh, it just leveled up even though its stuck and I'm typing this and not playing.

It stuck when a 3x1 block (three black, one white) tried to stack half way on a spot with well.. let me show you.

__=empty space (the webpage wouldn't preserve it)

I hope that makes sense. =) before that top 3x1 could slide, the blocks stopped moving. I hope that's helpful and I'm not just making an ASCII of myself. (get it?)

I'll wait for a full release. I love Lumines!!! The first and best puzzle I played on the little fella.

There's a typo when selecting a new game, Chaos is spelled as "Choas"

Can you make the switch between Themes random? One of the biggest problem with Lumines is that it's nearly impossible to see all of the Themes since you have to play through them all in order.

You might want to make a public request for people to make level packages. I'm certain you could get hundreds of submissions. It would also be handy if you could include support for MP3's to be included with the Themes. Then people can really customize each Theme. It also wouldn't hurt to have support for MP3's on the memory stick.

The graphics look like a solid start. Everything looks pretty smooth. But it could use a few glowing special effects, like explosions for destroyed blocks and a glowing beat bar. Just a few little Alpha transparencies using Additive color can really make some impressive special effects. Once you add the special effects, it should look every bit as good as Lumines ever did.

Once you get the effects done, you can just let the PSP Community handle making the Themes. There's lots of talented artists here, we could make dozens of levels in no time. You can take the best ones and add them to an official release in the future.

You get all of the credit with none of the work, what more could you ask for? ;)

Really great!!! Can't wait to put the next release in my 2.0 (also great it's 2.0+ compatible) :)

Here are some freeze bugs I found so far:

1-Random crash after making a square disapear (only happened lik once). PSP froze and crashed after a while.

2-The bug Psyberjock posted (this may happen depending on your timing... you must drop the block right over a disapearing square). The game will keep going (timer keeps counting but no more pieces will drop) and crash the PSP after a while.

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/5668/dsc041273mh.th.jpg (http://img98.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc041273mh.jpg)

3-Happens when you make a square (like one of those dropping pieces that have only one color) right over disapearing squares. Depends on the timing also. The PSP will freeze and crash after a while...

I'm becoming addicted to this so I hope you find the issue and fix it by the next release. So anoying when the game is going great and the PSP freezes...

Hope the pics make up for some confusing sentences :p
