Its been a long while since Dark Alex and the M33 team have graced us with a new Custom Firmware and recently the PSPGen Team seem to be the new kingpins with their releases of Custom Firmwares, but for you the people who actually use the Custom Firmwares, Which is your favoured Custom Firmware and Why ?

For those that have used both please discuss the strengths and weaknesses, your opinions will mean a lot to many new comers and experianced PSP homebrew users.

The Gen team have won my trust, but for all time favorite it would have to be the 3.03 OE-C, it was such a revolutionary firmware as far as what it could do.

I made the switch to GEN-B2 when they released a patch for IR Shell. I wasn't really holding out, per se, but seeing the patch had me thinking IR Shell (now) works with GEN so I'll gave it a shot. It didn't break anything for me (think I had to update a couple things like Ultimate VSH and Game Categories) so I've stuck with it. I'll update to D2 if I find it necessary to (like I decide to use the Playstation Store or something).

I had LEDA installed with M33 and used it for some old demos (not game demos, but from pouet.net) but not for anything I would use more than once. eLoader works for a couple things I do, so LEDA isn't missed. I never used the memory stick speed up hack.

So now that I guess it's possible to go back to M33 and still retain functionality, I don't see the point in bothering. M33 was amazing and greatly appreciated, but I've no nostalgia over old software.

And I'm glad for GEN, especially considering the inactivity of Dark Alex. Even if it has some bugs here and there -- that's why they need people using it to find them and fix them. Not to say we need to be beta testers for critical features, but there are different PSP models, several motherboards, and a multitude of homebrew, plugins, games not to mention firmware features, like the Playstation Store that can't all be tested by GEN alone. (I'm mainly thinking of the hi-res video that didn't work with D1.. My theory is that it was tied to getting newer games to work and the UMD. As UMD video is hi-res, XMB video is not, it broke hi-res video. Probably not easily foreseen as UMD video is rather uncommon. I digress.)

Well I used to use 5.03GEN-A, but then the UMD drive on my PSP 3000 broke and I had to send it in. The replacement came with 5.50 installed and I just have to wait until there is a new crack :(

To me I would say my favorite fw of all time was 3.52 m33 update-4 it was THE best firmware for it's time and is still one of my fav's but as of right now It's 5.00m33 because since gen was blocked on psn there's no need to update anymore and timemachine autoboot battery is annoying because u need the time machine mem stick to boot it and 1.5 on flash is wayyyyy more convient than tm also the decryptor works so there's no need to update to GEN anymore.

5.50 GEN D2, only cause I like having the latest firmware, I'm still on Gen B though, I'm too lazy to update

For me it's 3.71M33 because it's the first cfw i used on a Psp and got really excited about what it could do, everything since has been improvements but really just updating out of necessity.

I'm on 5.00 M33-6. 3.40 OE-C was a great OE firmware though.

I started with the OE's, but my all time favorite is 3.80 M33 ;)

I started with 1.0 on my black japanese PSP and 1.50 on my white one. I was planning to have one PSP upgrading and one kept at 1.50 so I could both play latest games and run homebrew. Then custom firmware arrived! Now I am running 5.00 M33-6 on both consoles with the 1.50 Kernel add-on. Never got any problem with that firmware so I am keeping it until further notice (I never update unless necessary).

I guess for newcomers GEN is the way to go. I will go with them without fear if I get a game requiring higher firmware version.

I've stuck with the M33 team, mainly because it works for me and I don't need to mess. I'll probably stick with the M33 if they continued with their great work as well.

Basically any of the M33 firmwares, I started out on 4.00 then quickly upgraded to 5.00-6 I really dont have any need to upgrade yet, due to programs to fix back ups. But i would totally LOVE to see a new M33

The obvious: Dark_Alex's v5.00 M33-6 cfw. However I do support the GEN v5.50-D2 too, something I will go with for sure if there's no updates from the former.

well i started out with 380 m33 and then updated along the way to 5.00m33 and still there ..i'm a heavy irshell user so compatibility is a major factor in my choice

5.00m33 and irshell 5.0:thumbup:

5.00 m33-6. It's because of the apps and the 1.5 kernel :)

Gen 5.50 D2. Why is everyone still making a big deal about 1.50 kernel support when most emus and decent apps are now ported and work without it? Loved m33/dark_alex, but come on, that era has passed. Move it, get on to the updated version, enjoy all the awesome that is Gen.

Ever since I decided to do the "what the hell" and upgrade from my virgin PSP 1.5 to Dark_Alex...I never left, now I'm on 5.00 M33-6 and it is hands down the greatest custom PSP firmware ever. Everything works perfectly and I can even play my new games so why sway, hopefully Dark_Alex and the M33 team bless us with a new CF but until then Dark_Alex is the greatest PSP Dev and if your on Android Cyanogen is the greatest.

5.00 m33-6 does everything I need it to :D

I stayed with 3.71 for a while because of the much appreciated fast mem stick reading. There were a lot of solid releases...3.52 m33-4 was really good.

I like M33's. They are nice. My favorit 1 is 3.71m33-5 +1.50kernel. It was a huge update cause from 2.71 nothing major has been changed till 3.71ofw, also 3.71m33-2 was my first cfw and was wery easy to install. also 3.71 is quite major cause slim was launched with 3.71.... Still using 5.00m33-6+150 kernel. Hope dark alex will be back with 6.10m33.

5.00 M33-6 all the way!

I did update to GEN 5.50-2 which was great, but love supporting the original emus and not these tweaked versions by non original authors.

GEN your FW is GREAT put FW1.5 support please!!!

I downgraded back to 5.00 M33-6 CFW because I finally could back up my newer games made for FW5.10+ and have them work on my 5.00 + working with my original authored SNES, N64, GBA, ect makes it worth while.
