PSPgo sold 28,275 units during its first day of availability in Japan, according to data from Famitsu publisher Enterbrain.

The new Sony handheld went on sale in the country yesterday, a month after launching in Europe and the US.

According to Media Create, PSP sold 32,865 units during the week ended October 25. PSPgo's first day sales are encouraging then, although Andriasang points out that Nintendo's DSi sold 170,000 units in the two days following its launch last November, while PSP-3000 managed over 140,000 sales in four days when it released in October 2009.

Japanese PSP sales stood at 12,797,180 units as of October 25, 2009.

Um... oops.
Nice job Sony. Next time, think about it a bit longer before creating a crippled product and expecting people to pay more.

If the thing doesn't work in Japan you just know it's doomed to fail because they buy handhelds by the absolute truck load, that's probably why release date a month after the rest hoping to test on us first.

They're probably still making a good chunk of change from the device.

That's in-line with the PSP-3000 first day sales in Japan.
