Seeing as the Samba De Amigo maracas work in a similar way to that of the Nintendo Wii-mote (in a sense), would it be in anyway possible to program games that use he technology for the Dreamcast?

It would most likely be pretty complicated, but Sega did slip maraca controller compatibility in World Series Baseball 2K1, in which you used one maraca and could swing it to hit the ball like a real bat, much like the baseball game on the Wii. What's more, Mr.Driller's simple controls almost work perfectly with the maracas. So far the only homebrew game I have heard of to be using the maracas is Viva La Samba. Just a thought.

It's possible. We at least know how to use them programming-wise. GyroVorbis reverse-engineered them and I think he's working on one, though, no news has been spilled out about it since early/mid last year.
