$73m of that was from the US and Canada, and the remaining $159.2m from around the world was bulked up mostly by Russia, France and the UK. In case you're wondering, it didn't break the previous record held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, nor Modern Warfare 2's $310m opening weekend sales. Still—that's a major breakthrough for a 3D film, with Avatar limited by compatible cinemas and inflated ticket prices.
