http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/9/2010/01/500x_alicetummy.jpg Originally, the upcoming Resident Evil (http://kotaku.com/tag/residentevil/) film, subtitled "Afterlife", was penciled in for August 27, 2010. Then there were rumors, which the film's star Milla Jovovich (http://kotaku.com/tag/millajovovich/) denied, that the movie would be released in January 2011.
Then it actually got delayed (http://kotaku.com/5422043/yes-new-resident-evil-movie-is-delayed). The RE flick was then scheduled to go up against MGM's upcoming horror film Cabin in the Woods. This would have meant digital 3D screens (both movies are 3D) would have been split.
The reason for the push was the extra time needed in post production for the movie's special effects. However, it now appears that Afterlife director Paul W.S. Anderson won't need extra time for the effects, and the movie is now on for September 10th.
The previous two Resident Evil movies were released in September as well.
