These screenshots of Lost Planet 2 (http://kotaku.com/tag/lostplanet2/) creature Debouse go great lengths towards explaining why they decided to lose the planet in the first place.
When you've got a cross between those frilled, spitting dinosaurs from Jurassic Park and a Sam Keith drawing wandering around your planet, losing it is probably your best bet. Capcom's Lost Planet 1 & 2 would have been much shorter had the characters in the game had any common sense.
