Today, a Nintendo spokesperson told Kotaku he didn't say that.
"Mr. Iwata did not make any comments regarding the functions of Nintendo's future hardware systems," Charlie Scibetta, Nintendo of America's senior director of corporate communications told Kotaku. "The answer to the reporter's question was misinterpreted."
Nintendo is taking issue with the original reporting by the Asahi Shimbun, claiming the paper's reporter ran with something the Nintendo chief didn't say. As translated by a fluent Japanese speaker at Kotaku, the Asahi Shumbun quoted Iwata as saying:

"[It will have] highly detailed graphics, and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing."
Kotaku had sought comment from Nintendo last week about Iwata's statements, which seemed to confirm speculation that work on a successor to the DS, be it a DS 2 or other platform, was under way.
Kotaku had also asked Nintendo for clarification on other elements of the Ashai Simbun story, which indicated that the next console Zelda would be released later this year and that the Wii Vitality Sensor (http://kotaku.com/tag/vitalitysensor/) would be showcased at an event in July. Nintendo did not comment to Kotaku on either of those topics.
Yesterday, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime did express a vaguer "when it's perfect (http://kotaku.com/5446501/reggie-dates-next-wii-zelda-for-when-its-perfect)" release window for the next Zelda on the company's official Wii channel.
