The University of Manchester has announced the opening of Animation10, its annual competition geared at school age students with an interest in computer sciences.

Submissions to the competition - funded by Google and EA, and held in association with BBC 21CC and cs4fn - are now open, and students aged between seven and 19 are invited to send in their computer animated short films for judging.

Entries can be created by individuals or by teams of up to four, and animations must be no longer than a minute long.

Films can be created using Alice, Scratch, Flash, Greenfoot or Serif DrawPlus.

The deadline for submissions is April 1 and winners will be announced ahead of the Animation Festival and an awards ceremony to be held in Manchester on July 9. Further details can be found on the competition's website.
