http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/deadspin/2009/10/stevephilips.jpgSteve Phillips, fired from his ESPN analyst's gig after an embarrassing affair with a production assistant, (http://deadspin.com/tag/brookehundley/) remains in the commentary booth for MLB 2K10 (http://kotaku.com/tag/mlb2k10/), according to the first previews of the game.
It's not surprising, nor can 2K Sports (http://kotaku.com/tag/2ksports/) be blamed for holding its nose and keeping Phillips on. His scandal came to light in late October, by then most likely too late to replace him for MLB 2K10 (http://kotaku.com/5392356/will-monkeyshines-at-espn-throw-a-monkeywrench-in-a-video-game), which releases March 2. Interestingly, though John Kruk also joins the booth this year, the announcing team of Phillips, Kruk and play-by-play man Gary Thorne are not highlighted in the game's pre-release features list. Perhaps understandably so.
While intriguing and - pardon the reference - inside baseball, the booth team is overall a minor point for a franchise that, as I've said before, has plenty of work to do (http://kotaku.com/5424851/not-the-bottom-of-the-ninth-but-a-big-at+bat-coming-for-mlb-2k10) after what it produced last year. I'll be getting my own look at this game soon, and I've got a laundry list of things I'll be looking for. Feel free to add to it in the comments.
