According to antivirus maker McAfee, Internet Explorer (http://gizmodo.com/tag/internetexplorer/) security flaws are the key culprit for what they're now calling "Operation Aurora (http://gizmodo.com/tag/operationaurora/)."
Such a beautiful name for such an ugly mess. McAfee is speculating about the precise ways the attacks were pulled off, but they're certain that the IE security flaws played a major role along with some "sophisticated social engineering scenarios."
