http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/9/2010/01/500x_seapeople.jpg BioShock won't be out until this February, but that doesn't mean it's too early to talk about the game's downloadable content. Far from it.
The game's developers already announced (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/18/bioshock-2-dlc-plans-are-aggressive-and-under-way/) that it had "pretty aggressive plans for DLC". The fist BioShock game only had DLC for the PS3 version, and it consisted of a few extra plasmids and challenge rooms.
The first DLC will be two downloadable characters for the game's multiplayer mode: actress Mademoiselle Blanche de Grace and sea dog Da Costa. The actress came to Rapture seeking new audiences, while the fisherman, born on a whaling ship, wanted to see the ocean from a different point-of-view. Even though BioShock 2 (http://kotaku.com/tag/bioshock2/) is set ten years after BioShock 1, BS2's multiplayer is set one year before the first game — something newcomers to the series could possibly find confusing. In the multiplayer mode, players fight their way for survival as they test new Plasmids in Rapture's Civil War.
So far, these characters have only been announced for Japan as part of an initial, special offer to players to introduce them to the game's multiplayer mode. The offer from D3 Publisher, the game's Japanese distributor, and no word whether BioShock 2's Western publisher will offer something similar.
BioShock 2 will be released in Japan on March 4 on the PS3 and the Xbox 360 (http://kotaku.com/tag/xbox360/). It will be released on February 9 in North America and PAL territories.
