beetroot bertie

Finally caved in to temptation and purchased a DS Lite, partly because it's prettier (I'm shallow like that) and partly because of the brighter screens (which are indeed much better than the origninal DS), and hopefully more comfortable gameplay (yet to try Metriod Prime...).
Anyway I was looking at the GBA slot cover and noticed that it had some electrical contacts on it (like the GBA carts) and wondered if that meant that there was some sort of Printed Circuit Board in the cover.
I'm not going to try to open it but wondered if anyone knows if the slot cover serves some other purpose other than just being a cover?
Any ideas?
