Hardware manufacturer NEC has built a chipset which could allow USB 3.0 (http://gizmodo.com/tag/usb30/) to reach speeds of up to 16Gbps. In comparison, the fastest technology hitting the production lines right now is Intel's Light Peak, "which could provide as much as 10Gbps by the end of this year."
